About the role

The role involves performing electrical tests and troubleshooting on subassemblies, assemblies, and systems for conformance to specifications. Responsibilities include understanding and applying the theory of operation to determine faulty products, following prints, schematics, and verbal/written instructions, operating environmental test chambers, developing test data to resolve performance issues, preparing test reports, rejecting assemblies that fail tests, and preparing for simple mathematical calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Performs electrical tests and troubleshooting on subassemblies, assemblies, and systems for conformance to specifications.
  • Understands and applies the theory of operation of the unit under test to determine faulty products due to design, workmanship, environmental, and component defects.
  • Reads, understands, and accurately follows prints, schematics, sketches, work from test procedures, and verbal or written instructions.
  • Operates environmental test chambers as required to ensure workmanship and product performance.
  • Develops test data to resolve performance problems in connection with the product under test.
  • May perform soldering and/or mechanical assembly, especially when completing tests with incomplete circuits.
  • Prepares test reports as required.
  • Rejects assemblies that fail to conform to test specifications and indicates on proper documents the phase of the test that the assembly failed and what alterations are needed to eliminate the defect.
  • Performs simple mathematics to determine power consumption, gain efficiency, signal noise ratio, etc., as necessary.
  • Uses considerable judgment to determine acceptable performance and locates and records discrepancies on various types of subassemblies using direct reading instruments, gauges, meters, and specialized measuring devices.
  • Captures and maintains data using either written or electronic media as required and/or directed by supervision.
  • Moves material as directed.
  • Collects data, prepares/ maintains records, using either written or electronic media, as required and/or directed by supervision.
  • Stops, stores, handles, uses, and disposes of hazardous waste chemicals such as acids, caustics, flammables, poisons, and oxidizers in accordance with federal, state, and local environmental protection laws.
  • May be required to successfully complete a pre-qualification test or exam.
  • May be required to obtain the appropriate government security clearance.
  • Performs duties as directed by supervisor.

Requirements

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • A minimum of one of the following qualifications is required:
    • Successfully complete a pre-qualification test or exam.
    • Electronic Technology Certificate from an accredited institution as defined by the company.
    • AA/AS degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or Electronics Technology or related field, as defined by the company.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Hardware Engineering, or related field, as defined by the company.
    • Military electronics technical school certification, as defined by the company.
    • 4 years of documented professional or military experience in troubleshooting electronic equipment within the last 12 years, as defined by the company.
    • 4 years of experience as an “Electronic Tester” (Job Code: EH0367).
  • Qualifications we prefer:
    • Prior experience as an Electronic Technician.
