Electronic Service Technician - Sioux City, IA
About the role
Convergint is seeking a full-time, enthusiastic, results-driven, and forward-thinking Security Service Technician to join their dynamic team. The role involves responding to routine and some non-routine customer service calls, scheduled maintenance calls, and emergency and after-hours service calls. Responsibilities include diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, replacing defective parts, and debugging systems for routine problems; installing projects as necessary; using solid troubleshooting skills to isolate and fix problems in malfunctioning equipment or software; identifying and resolving problems for various types of service calls, including emergency and after-hours calls; analyzing repair requirements and providing customer with appropriate solutions; completing necessary repairs and replacements as needed; exercising judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results; completing accurate and detailed service reports for customer and Convergint in a timely manner to allow for accurate invoicing and job cost tracking; and executing all service calls in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations as well as company health and safety policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Acts as “our customer’s best service provider” at all times thereby ensuring Convergint is the customer’s first choice for service.
- Responds to routine and some non-routine customer service calls, scheduled maintenance calls, and emergency and after-hours service calls on a timely basis; diagnoses, troubleshoots, repairs, replaces defective parts and debugs systems for routine problems; installs projects as necessary.
- Uses solid troubleshooting skills to isolate and fix problems in malfunctioning equipment or software.
- Identifies and resolves problems for many types of service calls including emergency and after-hours calls; analyzes repair requirements and provides customer with appropriate solutions; completes necessary repairs and replacements as needed.
- Completes accurate and detailed service reports for customer and Convergint in a timely manner to allow for accurate invoicing and job cost tracking.
- May provide custom systems integrations, detailed systems upgrade planning and execution, systems audits and consultation, and/or database management and manipulation. May install, configure, and support a variety of network systems and equipment for assigned projects.
- Executes all service calls in accordance with Federal, State and local regulations as well as company health and safety policies and procedures.
- Communicates with and works with the other team members consistently to improve overall operations of the Convergint Technology Center, and company.
- Primarily performs preventative maintenance for installed systems that are typically less complex.
- Works closely with other specialists to cross-train on servicing existing customers by responding to service calls, carrying out Customer Support Programs and small projects business.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.
Requirements
- Education: High School/GED or equivalent experience.
- Preferred Experience: 1-3 years relevant experience in one or more of the following industries: electronic, fire alarm & life safety, and/or building automation.
Qualifications

- Developing technical skills and experience related to building automation systems, fire alarm systems, and/or electronic security systems.
- Ability to develop basic programming skills and proven ability to troubleshoot problems and look for solutions.
- Solid mechanical and electrical aptitude (e.g., works with a variety of hand and power tools such as drill, screwdriver, wire stripper, hacksaw, crimper).
- Proficient computer skills including familiarity with MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
