Electronic Resources Cataloging Specialist
University Staff position within the UW-Madison Libraries, Cataloging Department. This is a regular, full-time (100%) role eligible for partial remote work after initial training, with a maximum of 40% remote per week.
About the role
The Electronic Resources Cataloging Specialist joins the Electronic Resources Cataloging Team to provide resource description services for the UW-Madison Libraries’ electronic collections. The role collaborates across departments to resolve cataloging issues, develop policies and workflows, and support the department’s functions. A successful candidate will contribute to committee service, task forces, and professional development activities.
Responsibilities
- Utilize library systems, tools, standards, and practices to describe, edit, preserve, and reformat electronic resources (60%)
- Provide complex support for day-to-day library operations, including guidance on information resources, policies, and acquisitions (20%)
- Contribute to the development and implementation of cataloging policies and procedures (5%)
- Participate in committee work within the library and university (5%)
- Utilize library software and systems to retrieve, enter, and report data (5%)
- Actively participate in an inclusive, welcoming, and respectful workplace (5%)
Requirements
- High school degree required
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to independently prioritize workload, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of cataloging and metadata standards (MARC, RDA)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and/or OpenRefine, including experience with large data sets and batch processing
- Familiarity with OCLC products (Connexion, WorldShare)
- Experience with an integrated library system (e.g., Alma from Ex Libris)
- Ability to analyze problems and suggest solutions
Pay
Starting salary between $39,335 - $45,000, based on experience and qualifications.
