Electronic Mechanic (MVO).

About the Role

Serves as an Electronic Mechanic responsible for monitoring, maintaining, setting, resetting, and repairing controls for a variety of Fire Alarms and Fire Suppression Systems. Installs, maintains, and repairs electric wiring systems, related switches, distribution panels, outlet boxes, and a wide variety of electrical fixtures, tools, and appliances.

Responsibilities

• Perform the most difficult and complex Electronic Mechanic tasks, including assembly, modification, test, and system integration of Fire Alarms and Fire Suppression Systems.
• Provide recommendations for modification, test, and repair procedures.
• Offer technical direction on the full range of test equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair duties.
• Recognize deficiencies in test equipment and program systems under test.
• Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Emergency on-call and call-back required 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
• Able to obtain and maintain a U.S. issued driver’s license.
• Pre-employment physical is required.
• Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs and operate a 1/2 to 2 1/2 ton truck.
• This is an inclement weather essential position.
• U.S. citizenship is required.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You must demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials, sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to perform the work of an Electronic Mechanic (MVO) without more than normal supervision. Failure to meet this element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort & Working Conditions

Physical Effort: Handles and carries tools, equipment, and testing devices that seldom weigh over 50 pounds. Work is normally performed at sites where most equipment can be reached from the floor or ladders. May occasionally use platforms, scaffolding, hoists, holders, and pulleys. Requires frequent standing, walking, climbing, and occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and work in tiring or uncomfortable positions.

Working Conditions: Most work is performed inside, but occasionally outside on top of tall buildings and in cramped areas with low overheads. Exposure to gas, smoke, ash, scalding water, carbon monoxide, oil, sulfur fumes, and toxic refrigerants. Protective gear (goggles, respirators, heavy aprons, hard hats, gloves, facemasks, and protective clothing) is provided to mitigate hazards.

No substitution of education for experience is permitted for this job; you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone.
