Electrician Diesel Engines - Chicago/Cicero

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Electrician Diesel Engine to join our Mechanical Department. This role is crucial for ensuring the reliable operation and safety of locomotive electrical systems and shop machinery.

Responsibilities

• Testing, inspecting, and repairing electrical components of locomotive systems and shop machinery.
• Maintaining and repairing locomotive alternators, generators, motors, AC/DC power control systems, electrical cabinets, lighting, batteries, and wiring.
• Inspecting, adjusting, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical components of shop equipment (drop tables, welding, mechanical and electromagnetic equipment).
• Performing preventative maintenance to ensure proper function of electrical and shop equipment.
• Working in a safety-sensitive environment with diverse and extreme weather conditions, walking and performing work on uneven surfaces, working on or around loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery.

Requirements

• Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization.
• At least 18 years of age or will be by the anticipated start date.
• Able to report for duty at the designated work location.
• Able to work safely in the above working conditions.
• Able to work the above shift/hours.
• Able to read, write, and communicate (speak, hear, and understand) in English.
• Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs without assistance.
• Able to visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow, and lunar (clear light).
• Able to discriminate and differentiate between verbal and non-verbal sounds (signals, alarms, etc.) in the work environment.
• Able to use hands and use hand tools to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning, and pulling.
• Able to climb ladders; get on/off equipment.
• Able to bend, walk, stand, and sit occasionally with breaks.
• Able to occasionally work at various heights above the ground, including working on top of a locomotive.

Qualifications

• 4 years of practical experience in electrical work.
• Union membership with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and adherence to union dues.

Skills

Strong knowledge of electrical systems, ability to troubleshoot and repair complex issues, and proficiency in using hand tools and test equipment.

Pay

Entry rate is approx. $35.83-42.66/hr with annual pay of $74,535 to 88,732 with 3-5 years seniority.

Schedule

Full-time position (40 hrs/wk) with assigned shifts covering 8-hour shifts. Mechanical shops operate 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. Travel is minimal.
