Essential functions (responsibilities, tasks, supervisory needs)

  • Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.
  • Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables.
  • Tests malfunctioning machinery and discusses malfunction with other maintenance workers, such as Maintenance Machine Repairer and Maintenance Tool Maker, to diagnose malfunction.
  • Replaces faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches, and motors, and positions sensing devices.
  • Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards.
  • Replaces electric motor bearings and rewires motors.
  • Diagnoses and replaces faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.
  • Inspects electrical systems.

Minimum Requirements Required Qualifications (education, years of experience, KSAs)

  • 2 years of experience as a maintenance electrician (level I or II)
  • Ability to read and write basic English, proficient in basic arithmetic.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use standard industry hand and power tools.
  • OSHA 10 training.
  • Arc Flash and Contact release training.
  • Fall protection training.

Work environment (includes travel/on-call)

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is frequently required to climb or balance.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Mental demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to understand English, and utilize teamwork skills.
  • The employee is frequently required to speak English and use decision making skills.
  • The employee is occasionally required to use interpersonal, customer service, mentoring, problem analysis, training, and supervision skills.
  • The employee will be occasionally required to read and write English, perform basic math, use exercise independent judgment, and use discretion.

Pay

This is a nonexempt position with an hourly base pay rate. The estimated gross weekly earning for this role would be about $2,874.

Schedule

Employees working in Alaska are advised to have medical insurance coverage which is valid in the State of Alaska. Work weeks provide a high volume of overtime pay.
