Job Summary
This position is open to electricians of all levels - apprentice to journeyman. This position will assist the Electrical Superintendent by performing duties as assigned to keep the equipment, grounds and facility in good operating order, compliance with applicable codes, standards, safety and environment regulations. Electrician will also perform necessary routine and required electrical maintenance on plant machinery, equipment along with physical general and building maintenance. An apprentice will learn and works towards gaining the hours to be able to achieve journeyman certification. Must abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and plant facility’s electrical equipment.
- Installs and repairs a wide variety of complex electrical equipment including automatic machine and process controls, control centers and panels, relays, circuit breakers, electronic controls, and other equipment.
- Detects problems, replace or repair parts, detect and replace defective control modules, test and make adjustments.
- Performs regular preventive maintenance on machines and plant facilities.
- Uses a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and materials handling equipment in performing duties.
- Detects faulty operations, defective material and report these and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
- Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles and installs electrical conduit, using tools, such as hacksaw, pipe threader, and conduit bender.
- Provides estimates of time, materials, supplies and equipment for a project. Keep records of labor and materials.
- Coplanates with management and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work order efficiently.
- Plans and prioritize jobs to ensure deadlines are met and emergencies are handled appropriately.
- Assures all work performed meets the regulations of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Tests electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters and voltmeters, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
- Performs a wide variety of semi-skilled/skilled electrical related activities for the purpose of ensuring that maintenance issues are resolved, and projects are completed in a safe, effective and timely manner.
- Researches new products, techniques, for the purpose of previewing products to provide recommendations regarding applications and purchases.
- Responsible for station lockout/tagout procedures as mandated by company policy.
- Complete daily maintenance and repair logs. Maintains tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of item in safe operating condition.
- On-call duties as defined.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Related Vocational/technical diploma;
- four years related experience;
- equivalent combination of education, experience and training.

Other Qualifications
- Must have a good sense of detail and work to maintain a clean and safe plant environment.
- Ability to operate hand tools and appropriate electrical tools.
- Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans.
- Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate.
- Must be able to adapt to changing work conditions and priorities.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals and blueprints, work orders, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and the company safety manual.
- Ability to lift, move, and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
Other Skills and Abilities
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, staff and the general public consistent with the duties of this position.
- Must understand basic numbers and math.
- Must be able to read and understand meter readings.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists consistent with the duties of this position.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form consistent with the duties of this position.
- Must be able to distinguish between safe and unsafe conditions.
- Minimal computer skills required. Will update department work files as needed.
