About the role

The Electrician Apprentice will perform duties associated with the Fabrication Shop process on an as-needed basis, joining a team of electricians and engineers dedicated to expanding the organization into the premier Metal Recycling Company in the United States. The central task is to assist the electrical team in installing, repairing, and maintaining all electrical systems at Eastern Metal Recycling’s Camden, NJ facilities while learning the basics of fabrication, welding, conduit installation/bending, and pulling wire.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the set-up and clean-up of all functions performed in the Fabrication Shop.
  • Support the Fabrication Shop electrical team with basic installation and maintenance of EMR electrical systems, including 24VDC control systems, 120VAC circuits, industrial 480VAC, and the fire suppression system.
  • Maintain equipment in a safe condition, using hand tools, power tools, and mobile equipment as necessary.
  • Monitor equipment for wear and the work environment for hazards, ensuring healthy ventilation levels to avoid particle or gas inhalation.
  • Follow safety protocols, including wearing heat-resistant gloves, protective masks, and safety shoes.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Skills

  • Knowledge of PLCs.
  • Mechanical inclination and a basic understanding of small mobile equipment such as forklifts, skid-steers, and man lifts.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Basic electrical theory fundamentals.
  • Ability to work safely on electrical systems with supervision and guidance from the electrical team lead.
  • Effective written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to take direction, perform duties to high standards, and meet scheduling obligations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED-equivalent.
  • Previous welding, fabrication, or electrical work preferred.
  • Experience using electrical or manual tools such as saws, squares, calipers, etc.

Work Environment

  • Outdoor environment with exposure to all weather conditions.
  • Potential exposure to moving mechanical parts and loud noise, requiring ear protection.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Work in confined spaces.
