About the role

We are searching for a driven, enthusiastic apprentice to join our Electrician four-year Registered Apprenticeship Program. As an Apprentice, you will collaborate with other apprentices, attend workshops and classes, gain knowledge from industry-recognized coursework and experienced journey workers, and develop practical skills. You will work within a specific department while also learning about other aspects of the industry. Outstanding apprentices respond well to constructive criticism, build good relationships with colleagues, and take responsibility for their actions.

Responsibilities

  • On-the-job learning and assisting within the relevant department while learning about other aspects of the company.
  • Attending workshops and participating in assigned coursework.
  • Observing health and safety procedures.
  • Completing required hands-on evaluations and electronic testing.
  • Traveling to assigned job sites when required.
  • Positively receiving feedback and building professional relationships with colleagues and clients.

Apprenticeship details

The term of the apprenticeship is four years with an on-the-job training attainment of 8,000 hours, supplemented by a minimum of 576 hours of related technical instruction and coursework.

Our program utilizes NCCER for electronic learning and testing, recognized by the construction industry as a standard for training, assessment, certification, and career development. Apprentices will receive accredited instruction in:

  • Job site and general workplace safety.
  • Installing and maintaining electrical systems.
  • Reading and interpreting National Electrical Code for proper selection and installation for solar photovoltaic and energy storage systems.
  • Blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Electrical construction quality control.
  • Team building.

Upon completion of the four-year program, apprentices are strongly encouraged to sit for the Commercial Electrician Journeyman licensure examination in their respective jurisdiction.

Pay

Apprentices shall be paid a progressively increasing schedule of wages based on a percentage of the current hourly journey-worker wage rate:

  • 1st Training Period (1000 OJL Hours) = 55%
  • 2nd Training Period (1000 OJL Hours) = 60%
  • 3rd Training Period (1000 OJL Hours) = 65%
  • 4th Training Period (1000 OJL Hours) = 70%
  • 5th Training Period (1000 OJL Hours) = 75%
  • 6th Training Period (1000 OJL Hours) = 80%
  • 7th Training Period (1000 OJL Hours) = 85%
  • 8th Training Period (1000 OJL Hours) = 90%

Schedule

This is a full-time hourly position with possible overtime.

Work environment

  • Able to work in varying temperatures and outdoors.
  • Able to interface with electronic devices (computers and tablets) for electronic learning.
  • Able to use printed materials for classroom education.

Physical demands

The applicant must be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the apprenticeship program, with or without reasonable accommodation, and without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of the individual or others.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Possess a high school diploma, GED, or other high school equivalent.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • A growth mindset and responsibility for one’s actions.
  • A desire to learn a trade as a career.
  • Able to pass a drug screen and background check.

To qualify for the apprenticeship program, applicants must either be employees of Gridworks, Inc. or employees of a contractor, subcontractor, or other entity performing construction work on a Gridworks-contracted project, and such employer must have executed an Employer Acceptance Agreement with Gridworks.

Travel

Ability and willingness to travel to various job locations as required.
