Electrical Trades II

Facilities Maintenance role ensuring the availability and distribution of electrical power across the CU Denver campuses for systems including energy management (EMCS), lighting, telecommunications, computer networks, and other applications.

Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems, including raceways, wiring, boxes, supports, lighting fixtures, electrical panels, receptacles, switches, fuse-holders, relays, HVAC controls, and other devices.
• Diagnose malfunctioning electrical components using test equipment and wiring diagrams to determine problem origins and implement efficient repairs, occasionally consulting with the electrical supervisor.
• Ensure all installations and repairs conform to CU Anschutz Medical Campus construction standards and National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements, communicating these standards to constituents.
• Meet with internal and external constituents to assess needs, provide pricing information, and determine scheduling and methods for work execution within budget constraints.
• Provide training and assistance to non-electrical CU Denver staff on electrical repairs, new installations, ballast replacement, and basic troubleshooting to ensure compliance with electrical codes and standards.
• Perform preventive maintenance on assigned equipment as directed by work orders, logging and reporting activities as required.
• Operate university vehicle to transport tools and equipment to various work sites across campus.
• Assess and advise on the capability of non-electrical staff to perform basic electrical work, involving the electrical supervisor when necessary.

Requirements

• Current, valid licensure as a journeyman electrician from the Colorado Electrical Board.
• Colorado residency at the time of application, as required by state law for state government jobs.
• Valid State of Colorado Driver’s License.
• Willingness and ability to pass a criminal background check, motor vehicle checks, and drug test.
• Subject to pre-employment, post-accident, incident, or reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing per UCD Facilities Operations Department Policies.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Current, valid licensure as a journeyman electrician from the Colorado Electrical Board.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with fire alarm systems.
• Experience diagnosing and repairing malfunctions in existing electrical systems.
• Experience providing training on ballast replacement and basic electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of the electrical trade and mechanical ability.

This position is designated as essential personnel and may require responding to emergencies, staying late, coming in early, or covering shifts as needed. Off-hours phone contact information for emergency call-in purposes will be required if hired.

Pay

The starting salary range for this position is $5,203 - $6,243 per month ($62,436 - $74,916 per year). This position is eligible for overtime compensation. If you have prior state-classified service in the same class series, your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program.
