Are you ready to design the future of electric power in Northern New Mexico? At Kit Carson Electric Cooperative (KCEC), you'll do more than engineer electrical systems—you'll help deliver safe, reliable power to the communities we serve while leading projects that make a lasting impact.
What You'll Do
- Provide professional engineering expertise in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of KCEC's electric distribution system.
- Lead the engineering team, including staking, right-of-way acquisition, permitting, and engineering administrative functions.
- Design and plan electric distribution system improvements and expansion projects.
- Collaborate with internal departments to develop system plans, design specifications, and construction projects.
- Review technical data and prepare engineering designs, equipment specifications, and construction configurations.
- Develop project cost estimates and prepare material and equipment lists for purchasing and scheduling.
- Perform engineering studies involving transformers, conductors, fuses, breakers, switchgear, and other system components.
- Lead and coordinate right-of-way acquisition, staking, and permitting activities.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety standards, regulations, codes, policies, and construction practices.
- Help build a safe, reliable, and efficient electric system for our members.
What You'll Bring
- A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (required).
- Additional coursework in mechanical or civil engineering is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with electric power distribution systems.
- Strong project management, leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with employees, contractors, agencies, and community stakeholders.
Work Environment
- This position combines office work with field responsibilities.
- You'll spend time both behind the desk and out in the field supporting construction and maintenance projects.
- You'll need to be comfortable with:
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Walking on uneven or unimproved terrain.
- Standing, sitting, bending, and stooping as needed.
- Working around active electric utility construction and maintenance operations.
