Electrical Specialist - Field

About the role

As an Electrical Specialist- Field, you will be a key integrator between Design Engineering, construction, and system commissioning. Additionally, you will assist fleet technicians as a resource in maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs, leveraging your expertise in system operations and design.

Responsibilities

• Read and understand system schematics and cable schedules for sites being developed.
• Communicate technical topics effectively to non-technical audiences.
• Use Microsoft Office products, PDF editing software, and required software for PLCs and Protection Relays.
• Understand PLCs (Deep Sea Electronics and other industrial PLC or PAC) and their ladder logic or similar functions, or be able to learn them.
• Understand system electrical protection relays such as SEL and ABB devices, or be able to learn them.
• Apply electrical fundamentals to 3-phase power generation, power distribution, energy storage systems, integrated system controls, and system monitoring.
• Troubleshoot and repair components related to the above systems.
• Use tooling, multimeters, meggers, and other test equipment for commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical distribution and controls.
• Create or improve procedures based on technical documents and field experience.
• Create and modify detailed drawings and conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches, or discussions.
• Critically assess system function, design, and response, as well as personnel actions to assist in Root Cause Analysis and process improvements.
• Support failure analysis, determine causes and effects, document reliability and maintainability trends, and identify design improvements.
• Provide technical expertise for sustaining engineering, addressing degraded system performance, parts obsolescence, and overall systems reliability.
• Willing to travel, including out-of-state, as required to support work.

Requirements

• Electrical Engineering degree preferred but open to applicable experience.
• Hands-on field experience in site construction, testing, and operation.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to work across organizations, from back office to field technicians.
• Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards, including NEC/NFPA, NESC, UL, and IEEE.
• Experience with CAD/ETAP or electrical simulation software is a plus.
• Detail-oriented and self-starter who can lead projects from start to finish.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior field engineering experience with a deep background in microgrid power generation and controls.
• Extensive experience troubleshooting microgrid systems and examples of previous successes.
