We are looking for a talented Electrical Qualification Agent to join our team specializing in quality, inspection, and safety. This role is based in Detroit, MI, or other major metropolitan areas within the state, and requires 90% or more travel.

About the role

As an Electrical Qualification Agent, you will ensure compliance, safety, and operational excellence across electrical installations and services. Key responsibilities include inspecting new electrical installations, reviewing plans, issuing and pulling permits, educating stakeholders, enforcing codes and standards, and maintaining compliance records. You will act as a qualification agent for electrical systems, including medium/high and low voltage power systems, generator installations, EV charger installations, loadbank testing, marine power generation, hydrolyzers, and fuel cells.

This position requires maintaining a current Master Electrician license (or equivalent) in your home state and obtaining reciprocity licenses for other states as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all electrical work performed by Cummins employees or subcontractors complies with NEC and state regulations. Conduct site visits, perform safety audits, and confirm adherence to compliance standards.
  • Obtain and manage electrical permits for all jobsite activities across multiple states and municipalities. Review design criteria, specifications, and documentation to ensure compliance with NEC/NFPA70e codes.
  • Monitor and maintain technician trainee cards, hours, and continuing education requirements to ensure compliance with state regulations.
  • Work closely with PEM/PM/Data Center and Start & Test teams to align schedules with permitting requirements. Participate in electrical safety meetings and foster a culture of safety and teamwork.
  • Build and sustain working relationships with state, city, and local agencies to ensure smooth operations and compliance.
  • Act as a qualification agent for electrical systems, including:
    • Medium/high and low voltage power systems
    • Generator installations and service
    • Electric vehicle charger installation and service
    • Loadbank testing
    • Marine power generation
    • Hydrolyzers
    • Fuel cells
  • Ensure that all electrical work performed by Cummins employees complies with the electrical installation rules and laws of the state.
  • Perform site visits, conduct Job Safety Observations (JSOs), and confirm electrical safety compliance is being adhered to.
  • Obtain electrical permits for all State and local activities, including reciprocity states as required. Permits may need to be purchased in person.
  • Review design criteria, specifications, drawings, equipment submittals, and other documentation pertinent to qualification.
  • Maintain technician trainee cards, monitor hours for electrical tests, and ensure compliance with continuing education requirements (32 hours of in-person continuing education required for renewal).
  • Maintain a working relationship with the State Department of Industrial Relations (if required) and ensure compliance with confidence testing requirements.
  • Work with the Electrical Safety Coordinator and participate in electrical safety meetings to ensure all technicians are up-to-date on the latest state requirements and drive an improved safety culture.
  • Determine if specific licenses are needed to do business in individual cities or municipalities.
  • Collaborate with PEM/PM teams to ensure schedules align with permits and with the start and test team on permitting and compliance for any testing.
  • Attend meetings as required, both virtual and in-person.
  • Other duties as assigned or required for the position.

Safety and Compliance

  • Contribute to the goal of working injury-free by supporting "safety interdependence" and participating in the "Find It Fix It" program (target: 4 per month in Q1-Q2, 8 per month in Q3-Q4).
  • Ensure compliance with the "Safety Six" (safety glasses, cut-resistant gloves, safety shoes, LOTO, wheel chocks, quality JSA).
  • Report all incidents (Near Miss/Property Damage) and concerns of injury immediately using Axiom for injuries as appropriate.
  • Participate in the JSO process by completing at least two JSOs per month with a quality score of ≥ 4.0.
  • Develop a working knowledge of the ANVL tool to support service techs through the JSA process.
  • Maintain a clean working environment and actively participate in weekly toolbox talks.
  • Complete annual compliance training for the position and actively participate in monthly safety meetings.

Employee Engagement

  • Participate in employee surveys and support programs to drive improvement in organizational health.
  • Participate in at least one community event scheduled in your location this year (EEEC).
  • Facilitate or support all eco-funded projects and complete at least one eco-efficiency project supporting Planet 2050 in every location in your area.

Customer Experience

  • Support improvement in Service NPS scores to ≥ 75% by:
    • Greeting customers professionally and answering the phone as quickly as possible.
    • Addressing customer concerns before the interaction ends to contribute to customer retention.
    • Responding to email and phone messages in a timely manner to maintain a high level of Customer Excellence.
    • Highlighting Net Promoter Score data/feedback during monthly Parts/Service Department team meetings.
    • Maintaining an open line of communication with customers and employees.
  • Analyze and streamline processes to improve efficiency and avoid missteps.
  • Establish a process to maintain organized and effective files.

  • Complete your self-assessment during the midyear and year-end Performance Management (TMS) process.
  • Ask for stakeholder feedback as part of the TMS process.

Requirements

  • Current Master Electrician license (or equivalent) in your home state, with the ability to obtain reciprocity licenses for other states as needed.
  • Intermediate level of relevant work experience, including team leadership experience.
  • College, university, or equivalent degree required.
  • Strong understanding of business operations and market dynamics to advance organizational objectives effectively.
  • Ability to develop and deliver clear, concise, and audience-specific communication across multiple channels.
  • Customer-focused with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships by delivering solutions that prioritize customer needs.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize large volumes of information, including conflicting data, to identify patterns and solve problems efficiently.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
