Location: Chicago, IL or other major metropolitan areas within the state. This role requires 90% or more travel.

About the role

As an Electrical Qualification Agent, you will play a critical part in ensuring compliance, safety, and operational excellence across electrical installations and services. You will inspect new electrical installations, review plans, issue and pull permits, educate stakeholders, enforce codes and standards, and maintain compliance records. This role involves acting as a qualification agent for electrical systems, including medium/high and low voltage power systems, generator installations, EV charger installations, loadbank testing, marine power generation, hydrolyzers, and fuel cells.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all electrical work performed by Cummins employees or subcontractors complies with NEC and state regulations.
  • Conduct site visits, perform safety audits, and confirm adherence to compliance standards.
  • Obtain and manage electrical permits for all jobsite activities across multiple states and municipalities.
  • Review design criteria, specifications, and documentation to ensure compliance with NEC/NFPA70e codes.
  • Monitor and maintain technician trainee cards, hours, and continuing education requirements to ensure compliance with state regulations.
  • Work closely with PEM/PM/Data Center and Start & Test teams to align schedules with permitting requirements.
  • Participate in electrical safety meetings and foster a culture of safety and teamwork.
  • Build and sustain working relationships with state, city, and local agencies to ensure smooth operations and compliance.
  • Inspect new electrical installations, review plans, issue permits, educate stakeholders, enforce codes and standards, and maintain compliance records.
  • Assist with electrical safety and incident investigations.
  • Act as a qualification agent for electrical systems, including:
    • Medium/high and low voltage power systems
    • Generator installations and service
    • Electric vehicle charger installation and service
    • Loadbank testing
    • Marine power generation
    • Hydrolyzers
  • Ensure that all electrical work complies with state electrical installation rules and laws.
  • Ensure all electrical safety procedures are utilized and compliance is adhered to.
  • Obtain electrical permits for all state and local activities, including reciprocity states.
  • Review design criteria, specifications, drawings, equipment submittals, and other documentation pertinent to qualification.
  • Maintain technician trainee cards, monitor hours, and submit to the state for compliance.
  • Ensure technicians renew trainee cards and complete required continuing education (32 hours of in-person continuing education for renewal).
  • Document inspections in job stories or attach virtual confirmation emails in Cummins operations systems.
  • Maintain working relationships with the State Department of Industrial Relations and ensure compliance with confidence testing requirements.
  • Work with the Electrical Safety Coordinator and participate in electrical safety meetings to keep technicians updated on state requirements.
  • Determine if specific licenses are needed for business in individual cities or municipalities.
  • Collaborate with PEM/PM teams to align schedules with permits and with the start and test team on permitting and compliance.
  • Attend virtual and in-person meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Safety and Compliance

  • Contribute to the goal of working injury-free by supporting safety interdependence.
  • Actively participate in the "Find It Fix It" program (Q1-Q2 target: 4 per month; Q3-Q4 target: 8 per month).
  • Ensure compliance with the "Safety Six" (safety glasses, cut-resistant gloves, safety shoes, LOTO, wheel chocks, quality JSA).
  • Report all incidents (Near Miss/Property Damage) and injury concerns immediately using Axiom.
  • Complete at least two Job Safety Observations (JSO) per month with a quality score of ≥ 4.0.
  • Develop working knowledge of the ANVL tool to support service techs through the JSA process.
  • Maintain a clean working environment and participate in weekly toolbox talks.
  • Complete annual compliance training and actively participate in monthly safety meetings.

Employee Engagement and Community Involvement

  • Participate in employee surveys and support programs to improve organizational health.
  • Engage in at least one EEEC (Employee Engagement and Environmental Commitment) event per year.
  • Support eco-funded projects and complete at least one eco-efficiency project per location to advance Planet 2050 goals.

Customer Experience

  • Support improvement in Service NPS scores to ≥ 75% by:
    • Greeting customers professionally and responding promptly to calls/emails.
    • Addressing customer concerns proactively to improve retention.
    • Highlighting NPS data/feedback during team meetings and learning from individual work orders.
  • Maintain open communication with customers, employees, and regulatory organizations.
  • Analyze and streamline processes to improve efficiency and avoid missteps.
  • Establish organized and effective filing processes.

Leadership and Teamwork

  • Complete self-assessments during midyear and year-end performance reviews (TMS).
  • Seek stakeholder feedback as part of the TMS process.

Requirements

  • Maintain a current Master Electrician license (or equivalent) in your home state.
  • Obtain reciprocity licenses for other states as needed.
  • College, university, or equivalent degree required.
  • Intermediate level of relevant work experience, including team leadership experience.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively while traveling extensively.
