Electrical Maintenance/Reliability Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a professional to be part of the Automation, Controls and Electrical team within the North American (NA) Technical Expertise department. In this role, you will lead electrical engineering design, maintenance, and reliability efforts across our manufacturing sites, including greenfield and brownfield capital projects, site support activities, reliability improvements, and power system studies. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (discipline engineers, project managers, plant operations, and maintenance personnel) to deliver innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions. Your responsibilities will also include providing technical guidance to less experienced I&E engineers and designers, whether in-house or from third-party firms.

Responsibilities

  • Offer engineering expertise and leadership for low, medium, and high voltage hardware and distribution systems maintenance and reliability, including electrical safety and explosion protection.
  • Provide technical support and solutions for manufacturing site initiatives, including power system design, modeling, and testing.
  • Lead electrical engineering for capital projects, including estimating, design, procurement, and commissioning support.
  • Efficiently execute electrical design, offer technical expertise on maintenance activities, and provide troubleshooting during construction and startup.
  • Ensure maintenance and reliability of low, medium, and high voltage systems (e.g., substations, transformers, motors, VFDs, UPS).
  • Develop and manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs utilizing SAP and maintenance history/records.
  • Conduct electrical studies (load flow, arc flash, relay coordination, etc.) using SKM PowerTools.
  • Support BASF Corporation Sites and develop NEC Code-compliant electrical projects.
  • Review and approve electrical specifications, drawings, and construction work package documentation.
  • Function as technical reviewer during Management of Change (MOC) process.
  • Participate in root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and develop corrective actions.
  • Champion long-term maintenance and reliability strategies, including long-range planning and Turnaround (TAR) work scope development support.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA 70E, NEC, IEEE, and company standards.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to drive continuous improvement.
  • Propose value-based engineering savings, participate in continuous improvement initiatives, and work with technical, project, and management teams.
  • Participate in teams, internal committees (Electrical Safe Working Group / RATN), and ad hoc assignments to represent the discipline.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in Electrical Engineering within chemical, petrochemical, or similar manufacturing sectors.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with varying and evolving priorities.
  • Proficiency and experience working with SKM Power Tools and SAP.
  • Robust experience driving safe, sustainable, and efficient solutions in BASF facilities.
  • Demonstrated capability to collaborate effectively and passion for problem-solving and innovation.
