About the role
This position is responsible for inspecting commercial and residential structures to ensure compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and other related codes. Examine and evaluate construction documents for commercial, industrial, and residential projects. Educate property owners and tenants, building engineers, contractors, other government agencies, and citizens on regulations and the importance of building safety. Maintain inspection reports using a county-provided laptop for added job mobility. Perform administrative work associated with inspection reports, construction documents, and data entry.
Responsibilities
- Inspect commercial and residential structures to ensure compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and other related codes.
- Evaluate construction documents for commercial, industrial, and residential projects.
- Provide education on regulations and building safety to property owners, tenants, building engineers, contractors, government agencies, and citizens.
- Maintain inspection reports using a county-provided laptop.
- Perform administrative tasks such as data entry for documenting inspection results in the County’s computer-based program.
- Aid customers in navigating the various processes required to inspect construction projects.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED and 2 years of related experience.
- 3-5 years of Electrical Construction experience preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and documents.
- Microsoft Office proficiency.
Qualifications
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Pass a DMV Records Check.
- Completion of a successful pre-employment physical.
- Must become certified by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development as a Technical Assistant to the Building Official within 18 months of employment.

Pay
$24.82-$33.05 per hour ($48,399-$64,447.50)
Schedule
Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (37.5 hours per week)
