Electrical Hardware Design Engineer

About the role

Piper Companies is seeking an Electrical Hardware Design Engineer to join a leading telecommunications technology company onsite Monday – Friday in Morrisville, NC. The ideal candidate will design, validate, and support PCB-based hardware platforms while collaborating closely with embedded firmware teams to develop and troubleshoot carrier-grade products.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop PCB-based hardware solutions for telecommunications products.
• Create schematics, hardware documentation, and design specifications.
• Perform board bring-up, hardware validation, and debug activities.
• Troubleshoot complex board-level and system-level hardware issues.
• Collaborate closely with firmware engineers on hardware and software integration.
• Support prototype, production, and deployed hardware platforms.
• Utilize oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other lab equipment to validate designs.
• Participate in hardware architecture discussions and design reviews.
• Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for technical issues.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of electrical hardware design experience.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States and obtain and maintain an Active U.S. Government Secret Clearance.
• Strong PCB design and board-level development experience.
• Experience with board bring-up, validation, and debugging.
• Knowledge of digital and analog circuit design.
• Understanding of hardware architecture and chip-level design concepts.
• Experience working with embedded processor-based systems.
• Familiarity with Linux and RTOS environments.
• Proficiency using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other test equipment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related hardware-focused discipline.

Pay

• Salary range: $115,000 – $145,000 annually based on experience.
