Electrical General Foreman (Solar EPC)

This position manages and provides on-site supervision of all working Foremen and technical leads in the field, ensuring safe, productive, and quality construction while controlling costs. The General Foreman is responsible for independent decision-making, scheduling labor, materials, tools, and equipment, and ensuring work complies with specifications and contract requirements. The role provides technical expertise for power-generating construction projects, including high or medium voltage electrical systems and substations.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and directs all Foremen and technical leads on-site to ensure optimal use of company resources and adherence to policies and regulations.
• Provides formal and informal feedback to Foremen and Field Engineers.
• Schedules equipment, materials, and tools to maximize production and minimize costs after assessing scope of work and site conditions; collaborates with Trade Superintendent on scheduled activities.
• Manages, coaches, trains, and implements standardized Work Plans and Work Methods; assists Trade Superintendent in process improvement efforts.
• Acts as a technical consultant to field personnel in areas such as electrical circuits, power quality, switchgear installations, inter-connect systems, auxiliary power, and high voltage terminations.
• Ensures safe working conditions and enforces company, federal, and state safety regulations; addresses safety concerns with Trade Superintendent and manages employee training for work methods and special risks (e.g., cranes, lifting, DOT requirements, JHA’s, accident injury management, electrical safety hazards, LOTO, arc flash).
• Communicates project status and problem areas to Trade Superintendent; collaborates on planning and staffing (hiring, promoting, disciplining, terminating) trade employees.
• Maintains a professional and respectful demeanor while fostering collaboration with front-line supervision, craft, subcontractors, vendors, and the Owner.
• Compares labor and equipment production and efficiency to job estimates; informs Trade Superintendent of cost over-runs and resource utilization.
• Verifies project construction activities and engineering conform to the project Quality Plan and Work Methods; establishes, aligns, and communicates project specifications and craftsmanship expectations.
• Mentors Field Coordinators, Field Engineers, and Foremen on work discipline, production costs, scope of work, quality, and safety.
• Understands scope of work per the contract; performs additional assignments as directed by supervisor.
• Maintains crew and equipment matrices, comparing information to established Work Plans and updating Operations Analysis as needed.
• Familiarizes themselves with site conditions.

Requirements

• Valid driver license and acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
• Ability to manage and supervise multiple employees.
• Thorough knowledge of tools and equipment uses and limitations.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with owners and employees.
• Relocation to the project site community is required.
• May need to pursue company contract licensing, journeyman, or master electrician license.
• Ability to read and understand prints and contract documents.
• Knowledge of required federal and state codes for the project.
• Previous utility-scale solar, substation, or related construction management experience.

Physical Requirements

• Compliance with client safety requirements (e.g., clean-shaven, long sleeves, steel-toe boots).
• Must pass a physical exam if required.
• Able to:
  • Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, and stairways.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work at heights or in confined spaces (e.g., towers, vessels, excavations).
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs (use assistance for heavier loads).
  • Stand or walk for extended periods on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel).
  • Wear a respirator and other PPE when required.

Work Environment

Industrial construction sites and/or fabrication shops with the following conditions:

• Mobility barriers: uneven ground, obstructed pathways, work at low/high elevations, confined workspaces.
• Predominantly outdoor work with exposure to:
  • Extreme heat or cold.
  • Humidity, rain, and other weather conditions.
  • Loud noise from tools and machinery.
  • Potential chemical exposure.

Pay

Salary: $90,000–$120,000 per year (full-time schedule).
