About the Role

Lead and perform installations, alterations, additions, and repairs of electrical systems, conductors, and associated materials and equipment within residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Manage on-site safety, project budgets, timelines, and quality standards while adhering to NEC, state, and local codes. Coordinate field installations, project close-outs, and maintain customer/client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate and enforce Gaylor Values, Company policies, and job safety requirements (OSHA).
  • Interpret and enforce compliance with NEC, state, and local codes.
  • Perform or demonstrate all Journeyperson skills, including working with live/energized parts.
  • Ensure proper use and safe handling of tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Understand project scope, including responsibilities of other trades, and visualize completed work prior to installation.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and shop drawings.
  • Collaborate with field personnel and support staff.
  • Oversee, direct, and develop a team of 1-6 Helpers, Apprentices, and/or Journeypersons.
  • Conduct meetings and huddles with assigned crew to meet project objectives and schedules.
  • Assign tasks based on individual ability and experience; resolve obstacles and conflicts.
  • Lead, motivate, coach, and provide feedback to assigned employees.
  • Monitor and order materials, tools, and equipment; maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Obtain approval for change orders and ensure accurate, timely installations.
  • Complete routine daily inspections, safety checks, and project documentation (e.g., time sheets, progress reports, daily logs).
  • Report accidents or incidents to supervisors per Company policy.
  • Interact with owners, architects, engineers, trade contractors, vendors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Apprenticeship Program or six years of on-the-job electrical experience.
  • Journeyman License required in applicable states, locales, or projects.
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Technical and safety knowledge, including ability to work with live/energized parts.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints and shop drawings.
  • Ability to visualize completed work prior to installation.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.

Working Conditions

  • Work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) depending on job location and time of year.
  • Utilize construction site sanitary facilities (port-o-lets).
  • Carry required hand tools at all times (waist tool belts may weigh up to 30 lbs.).
  • Work scheduled hours, including overtime on short notice.
  • Operate in noisy environments and remain calm during heightened emotional situations.
  • Collaborate effectively as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Wear personal protective equipment (e.g., hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, high-visibility vest, safety harness).
  • Stand, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead for extended periods.
  • Lift loads up to 51 lbs.
  • Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
  • Climb and use ladders and scaffolding of all types for extended periods.
  • Good vision (normal or corrected) and hearing.
  • Transition from parking areas to construction zones, including access to all building levels via OSHA-approved ladders or stairs.
  • Work while constantly moving and maintain balance when reaching or stretching.
  • Use both hands simultaneously for tasks like tying knots and operating power equipment.
  • Discern color-coded wiring.
  • Physically capable of pulling wires and cables through conduits.
