As a Staff Electrical Engineer Lead within the Electrical and Instrument Design Expertise team, you will oversee electrical design activities across all phases of greenfield and brownfield capital projects for BASF Corporation. A critical component of this position is the ability to develop, execute, and interpret electrical system studies, delivering clear, accurate, and detailed reports that support safe, reliable, and compliant system designs.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for the execution of capital projects in chemical and petrochemical environments.
- Lead development of electrical scope, engineering deliverables, and specifications, including manhour estimates, material take-offs, power system studies, and equipment selection.
- Execute and review electrical system studies, ensuring NEC compliance, reliability, and remediation across BASF sites.
- Prepare cost estimates, perform technical bid evaluations, and support procurement activities to secure compliant and cost-effective electrical equipment.
- Provide technical oversight during installation, testing, energization, startup, and commissioning, while supporting maintenance activities and troubleshooting construction-phase challenges.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including operations, maintenance, procurement, project engineering, vendors, and external engineering partners to drive aligned and efficient project execution.
- Drive innovative, safe, and sustainable engineering solutions that enhance reliability and improve efficiency and predictability within the capital project design process.
- Communicate effectively across technical and project teams, contributing to project meetings, continuous improvement initiatives, and value-based engineering discussions.
Requirements
- Hold a BS/MS degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in electrical engineering in the Chemicals, Refining, or Petrochemicals industry.
- Capital Project execution experience, especially in the Electrical discipline areas.
- Proficiency with SKM Power Tools for Windows.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and networking skills with ability to lead business development activities along with cross-functional teams and lead workshops.
- Knowledge of electrical expertise (equipment and infrastructure) within industry (chemical preferred).
- Prior experience working with Engineering Partners and teams with diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Experience in leading efforts to identify and implement electrical improvements in the Chemicals, Refining, or Petrochemicals industry.
