Electrical Engineer III - Life Sciences

About the Role

The Electrical Engineer III focuses on the design and engineering of power, lighting, grounding/bonding, special systems (e.g., telephone/data, security, fire alarm), raceway, cable tray, and other electrical control and building support systems into the built work environment. This position oversees the Electrical discipline scope of work, manages the discipline budget on small to medium projects of intermediate complexity, and coordinates with internal and external architects, engineers, clients, construction managers, subcontractors, vendors, and manufacturers.

Responsibilities

• Design electrical systems of intermediate complexity in conformance with code requirements and in coordination with other design disciplines.
• Work closely with architects, engineers, designers, and other internal and external team members to ensure a coordinated, constructible, and complete design.
• Coordinate with construction trade partners, vendors, and manufacturers.
• Develop narratives, reports, and construction drawing packages; write construction specifications on small projects of intermediate complexity with minimal oversight.
• Support construction activities such as RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch list development, and construction progress reports.
• Plan and direct work, manage project electrical design budgets, and lead quality check efforts for small to medium-sized projects.
• Provide mentorship to less experienced Electrical Engineers and/or Designers.
• Lead systems design programming and master planning on intermediate projects with support from Design Lead or Senior Engineer.
• Utilize software for building information modeling, computer-aided drafting, and engineering calculations (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office).
• Perform power load, illumination, short circuit, and voltage drop calculations; create basis of design reports, code evaluations, one-line diagrams, plans, schedules, installation details, and specifications.
• Identify non-compliant existing conditions during site walks and construction field surveys.
• Develop internal electrical design and engineering training presentations.
• Attend professional development activities.
• May work on one or more projects simultaneously as directed by a Supervisor.

Requirements

• ABET-accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or Engineering Technology.
• 5 years of relevant AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) firm experience.
• Professional Engineer registration in good standing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Relevant design firm experience.
• Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
• Intermediate knowledge of GMP manufacturing environments.
• Intermediate experience with performing engineering calculations and developing electrical lighting, power, and special systems design.
• Intermediate experience with electrical codes and standards (NFPA, IESNA, UL, OSHA, and/or IEEE).
• Basic experience with applicable building codes.
• Proficient with intermediate internal and external cross-discipline project team coordination.
• Proficient with intermediate coordination with construction trade partners, vendors, and manufacturers.
• Proficient at intermediate electrical lighting, power, and special systems design calculations with limited supervision.
• Intermediate experience conducting and leading field surveys of existing conditions and providing support for field reporting.
• Basic experience troubleshooting issues with electrical equipment and systems.
• Ability to travel for client development, project execution, and internal/external training opportunities.
