Electrical Engineer

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), is seeking a qualified Electrical Engineer to join our team in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering calculations and analysis within the scope of the engineering discipline and provide rigorous written documentation supporting design decisions.
• Effectively interface with various departments including Quality Assurance, Procurement, Project Management, and Operations.
• Provide technical field leadership support to solve equipment malfunctions.
• Maintain system configuration documentation, including system drawings, design specifications, trending analysis, and system health indicators.
• Perform system health walk-downs and prepare system health reports.
• Obtain and maintain qualifications through annual training covering commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures used to complete the engineering process.
• Perform electrical modification/evaluation of existing systems.
• Conduct routine inspections for adherence to applicable building/construction codes/regulations, engineering design change processes, and configuration design control.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (required).
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without SIMCO visa sponsorship now or in the future.
• Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the WIPP Site (even if teleworking, must still comply with security requirements to obtain a badge).
• Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns—including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries—are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred).
• Experience with NFPA 70, National Electric Code.
• Familiarity with NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace.
• Knowledge of Low Voltage and Lighting in an industrial process.
• One (1) year of nuclear project experience.
• Previous WIPP Project experience (preferred).

Pay

Salary range: $70,972 to $123,573 per year. The specific salary offered will be influenced by the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
