About the Role

Novelis is a global leader in aluminum recycling and rolling, and a leading sustainable aluminum solutions provider. We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to work on-site at our Bay Minette, AL facility. This role will report to the Engineering, Maintenance, Reliability & Automation (EMRA) Leader and contribute to the plant’s safety, quality, sustainability, and budget objectives.

The ideal candidate will work with a team of electrical engineers to advance automated systems and methods, balancing evolving technology with operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze processes, equipment, and facilities to identify advancements that increase profitability through cost reduction, efficiency improvements, quality enhancements, increased production output, and optimized equipment uptime.
  • Support the aluminum manufacturing process by collaborating with Operations, Engineering, Administrative, and Process groups.
  • Work with Automation, Reliability, and Engineering Managers to develop conceptual and functional requirements for short- and long-term process and equipment development aligned with the business plan.
  • Provide after-hours and weekend support to assist maintenance in resolving issues impacting plant performance, including remote or onsite direction and mentorship.
  • Support maintenance technicians and engineers in resolving and preventing maintenance and engineering problems, and develop training programs for maintenance staff.
  • Apply innovative technology and techniques to resolve complex problems related to recycle, remelt, and casting electrical controls.
  • Cross-train with teams on electrical controls for recycle, remelt, and casting applications.
  • Review site equipment and technology for robustness, reliability, and obsolescence; develop plans for modifications or upgrades as needed.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation in processes and systems.
  • Support capital projects from conceptualization through implementation.
  • Manage communication between the plant and electrical supply (power distribution).
  • Implement electrical engineering solutions for environmental regulations and system improvements.
  • Collaborate internally to support, mentor, and assist teams in meeting safety, quality, reliability, and cost goals.
  • Influence regional and global decision-making by preparing and presenting technical information to senior management on matters such as capital expenditures or process improvements.
  • Adhere to and support company quality, environmental, health & safety, and certification standards, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, IATF 16949:2016, and ASI Certifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in factory electrical engineering.
  • Knowledge of electric motor and drive systems.
  • Experience with PLC and HMI design and programming (Allen Bradley/Rockwell Studio 5000, PowerFlex VFDs, and Factory Talk View SE/ME preferred).
  • Methodical equipment problem-solving skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Result-oriented with strong decision-making capabilities.
  • Excellent collaboration skills; ability to support, lead, and develop personnel to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to engage with all levels of the organization.
  • Proactive initiative-taker with a desire to build collaborative relationships.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% (domestic and international).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with steel or aluminum recycle, remelt, and casting processes.
  • Proficiency in Historian systems (iba/PDA).
  • Knowledge of large industrial combustion systems.
  • Understanding of controls and servo systems, maintenance procedures, and equipment reliability principles.
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, tooling, measurement feedback systems, and design robustness.

About the Location

Novelis' newly announced Bay Minette facility is located 35 miles northeast of Mobile, AL, and 45 miles west of Pensacola, FL. The facility is expected to create approximately 1,000 high-paying advanced careers in modern manufacturing. This highly advanced rolling and recycling facility will primarily serve customers in the beverage can and automotive markets.
