IREN is a leading AI Cloud Service Provider, delivering large-scale GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN’s vertically integrated platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and data centers in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe, and APAC. With 100% renewable energy, we build, own, and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute.

About the role

Reporting to the VP of Engineering, the Electrical Engineer will develop and deliver electrical designs and engineering support for IREN’s AI data center power infrastructure, ensuring safety, reliability, scalability, and compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer low voltage power distribution solutions that support IREN’s AI data center operations, including equipment selection and integration of switchboards/switchgear, protective devices, transformers, and generators (gensets).
  • Perform and/or review power system studies and calculations for data center electrical infrastructure (e.g., load flow, short circuit, equipment duty, protection coordination/selectivity, grounding, and arc flash inputs as applicable) and document design basis and assumptions.
  • Partner with IREN’s data center design, construction, commissioning, and operations teams to translate reliability, maintainability, and scalability requirements into practical electrical designs and standard build packages.
  • Define and execute (or oversee) verification activities including design reviews, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and commissioning support; troubleshoot issues and drive corrective actions with vendors and internal teams.
  • Provide technical oversight for suppliers and EPC/contractor partners, including reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, and ensuring equipment and installation meet IREN standards, applicable codes, and project requirements.
  • Create and maintain data center electrical engineering deliverables such as single-line diagrams, schematics, cable schedules, calculations, protection settings inputs (as applicable), specifications, and commissioning/test documentation; ensure accurate handover to operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution (Master’s degree is an asset).
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license, or ability to obtain licensure in the role’s jurisdiction within an agreed time frame.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in low voltage power distribution, equipment manufacturing, consulting, mission-critical facilities, or industrial environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of power distribution equipment such as switchgear/switchboards, protective devices, transformers, and generators (gensets), including validation and acceptance testing practices.
  • Proficiency with electrical system analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM Power Tools) and the ability to produce and interpret engineering calculations and study reports.
  • Experience delivering projects for data center, mission-critical, or industrial clients, including coordination with internal stakeholders and external authorities as required.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Benefits
