Electrical Engineer
About the role
Carrier Control Box Group designs, develops, and manufactures control and control panel solutions for the HVAC, refrigeration, and other OEM related markets globally. Carrier is seeking an Engineer to be based in Fort Wayne, IN. The available opportunity is a critical and comprehensive role within the Control Box Engineering group.
Responsibilities
- Utilization of Microsoft Office products to generate product configurations and initial bills-of-material for control panels
- Creation of control panel harness designs, including the utilization of AutoCAD to generate harness drawings
- Aid mechanical designers in the creation of enclosure and assembly drawings
- Assembly and evaluation of physical mock-ups of control boxes and panels
- Provide design support in producing deliverables, contract documents, design calculations and analysis, and assisting lead building mechanical engineers in a team environment
- Control panel layout, wire harness creation, and component selection
- Select, apply, and calculate power electronics and electromechanical devices for control and power distribution in larger electromechanical systems
- Identify and evaluate electrical issues in our products to determine root cause and corrective actions
- Participate in the generation of schedules, proposals, budgets, and scopes for engineering work
- Actively participate in project design reviews
- Interact with customers and control box team members to create new control box designs and features according to customer specifications
- Possess the ability to communicate effectively through various means including written, verbal and electronic formats
- Proactively communicate project details with managing team(s) to avoid schedule issues
- Perform technical write-ups as necessary to explain results of studies & tests
- Apply the proper level of attention to the details of your tasks to avoid mistakes and rework
- Perform routine duties that require application and knowledge of basic engineering principles
- Ability to resolve complex problems and adapt to technological changes
- Have base level proficiency with computer applications used in office environments (MS Office, email, video conferencing, etc.)
- Utilize PTC Windchill application to generate and release parts, BOMs, change notices, etc.
- Generate and implement Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) through the Windchill product data management system
- Evaluate and approve components with suppliers to meet requirements for function and performance
- Support sustaining products including quality improvements, cost reductions, component obsolescence, and failure analysis
- Manage your own workflow for assigned projects

- Manage your own time and schedules to follow through on assigned tasks
- Attend and participate in meetings regarding your assigned projects
- Communicate project or work status through regular written or verbal updates
- Work under the supervision of Senior level engineers
- Possess an outgoing and positive attitude, dependable and able to meet all assigned project deadlines
- Perform routine assignments which are clearly defined and require the application of standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria
- Cookordination project activities with a senior engineer or manager
- Travel to customer, supplier, and manufacturing sites to support concept generation and pre-production builds - Travel approximately 10%, domestic and international (Mexico)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, 3+ years engineering experience
- Ability to read, understand, and troubleshoot electrical schematics
- Familiarity with electromechanical devices (motors, breakers, relays, etc.) and electromechanical enclosures and control panel development is highly desirable
- Electrical engineering degree is preferred, but any applicable combination of degree and experience will be considered
- Familiarity with Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning systems is highly desirable
- Familiarity with national and international standards is also highly desirable. Examples include NEMA, IP, ANSI, UL1995, UL60335, UL508a, and NFPA 70
- Experience in using AutoCAD or a similar 2d drawing program for schematic and wire harness design is preferred
- Project management skills
Pay and Benefits
The annual salary for this position is between $64,500.00 - $129,500.00 annually. Factors which may affect pay within this range include, but are not limited to, skills, education, experience, and other unique qualifications of the successful candidate.
