Responsibilities
Your Day-to-Day as an Electrical Engineer: As an Electrical Engineer for BWXT you will join a team that powers some of the most important nuclear and national-security missions in the country. In this role, you will design and support complex electrical systems that keep our facilities running safely, reliably, and efficiently. Your work will directly contribute to BWXT’s mission of delivering high-consequence engineering with uncompromising precision.
- Design complex electrical systems for facility infrastructure, including substations, switchgear, transformer sizing, VFDs, power monitoring, and related systems.
- Review and write technical specifications for facility equipment and buildings.
- Manage projects involving electrical infrastructure additions, replacements, and modifications.
- Collaborate closely with facility engineers, contractors, and maintenance teams to ensure safe and effective execution.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, plus a minimum of 2 years of experience.
- Working knowledge of National Electric Code, NFPA 70E and 79, and 29 CFR 1910 OSHA Standards.
- Ability to work during the annual plant shutdown (week of July 4).
- Ability to support occasional emergency needs related to power distribution (less than 5% of the time).
- Experience with industrial or facility infrastructure design and industrial equipment.
- CAD experience (MicroStation preferred but not required).

- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

Pay
The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $76,000 and $119,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment.
Schedule
The schedule for this role is typically a standard 40-hour work week, with occasional overtime as needed for project completion. The role requires working during the annual plant shutdown (week of July 4) and supporting occasional emergency needs related to power distribution (less than 5% of the time).
