Electrical Designer/Engineer
Responsible for
- Meeting firm engineering quality levels for discipline on assigned projects.
- Overseeing development of design concepts by Designers and ensuring proper application and execution.
- Verifying Designer's work quality regarding specifications, reports, code application, submittal review, equipment selection, deliverables, and drawings.
- Mentoring and encouraging development of Designer-level staff.
- Applying firm risk management practices of project engineering.
- Leading the discipline design to produce construction documents that meet project requirements within allocated schedule and budget while minimizing erroneous efforts.
- Having a solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and advanced concepts to execute all required aspects of discipline engineering.
- Encouraging collaboration to seek the best solutions.
- Front-end loading projects and applying best practices to set the proper direction of the project in SDs and DDs.
- Managing work plans and deliverables on multiple projects within budgeted hours.
- Writing studies and reports for Electrical systems on projects.
- Executing complex electrical designs with conflicting design requirements or difficult coordination.
- Evaluating Value Engineering (cost cutting) items with respect to firm risk.
- Developing basis of design narratives documenting project scope.
- Meeting with contractors during bid phase to review design details.
Engineering/Design
- Prepare one-line diagrams.
- Maintain discipline engineering documents for the project.
- Respond to RFI’s for the project and accurately review submittals.
- Solve installation problems with electrical systems, travel to the site to resolve issues.
- CAD proficient with working CAD drawings.
- Prepare CAD floor plans showing electrical device layouts, circuitry, fixtures, equipment, etc.
- Perform calculations for available fault current study; implement proper AIC ratings of equipment, coordination studies, and arc flash analysis.
- Prepare calculations for electrical loads and panel schedules.
- Thorough knowledge of NEC and other codes.
- Understand and correctly apply concepts of emergency and normal power systems.
- Understand and apply concepts of lighting, photometric, and lighting controls.
- Understand and apply concepts of voltage drop, conductor sizing, harmonics, etc.
- Edit electrical specifications.
- Layout fire alarm devices on floor plans.
- Develop equipment room sizes during Schematic Design and Design Development phases.
- Select and schedule equipment.
- Meet with vendors to determine specification requirements for application.
- Coordinate with other disciplines (MEP/FP, arch, struct, etc) for all electrical & lighting details.
- Manage and deliver revisions (ASI’s, etc).
- Understand circuit breaker coordination and application.
- Understand specific Electrical requirements for applications within the Market Sector.
- Understand and properly apply details relevant to projects.
Project Coordination
- Distribute project-related correspondence to project team members.
- Prepare project meeting minutes.
- Schedule in-house discipline meetings.
- Oversee deliverables to and from clients.
- Oversee and encourage coordination between disciplines.
- Provide discipline-specific manpower planning for projects.
- Provide continuous support for the Project Manager.
