Electrical Designer
This role focuses on creating and modifying electrical and electronic schematics using AutoCAD to support turnkey power generation solutions.
About the role
The Electrical Designer collaborates closely with engineers, project managers, and cross-functional teams to develop accurate, compliant, and complete schematics for medium and low voltage power systems and controls. The position requires strong technical drafting skills, a solid understanding of industry codes and standards, and the ability to support installation, testing, and troubleshooting activities for industrial automation and instrumentation and control (I&C) systems.
Responsibilities
- Create and modify detailed electrical and electronic schematics using AutoCAD Electrical in support of turnkey power generation projects.
- Partner with engineers, project managers, and cross-functional teams to develop accurate, complete, and clearly documented schematics for power systems and controls.
- Ensure all electrical designs comply with applicable industry standards, including the National Electric Code (NEC) and other relevant codes and standards.
- Conduct quality reviews of schematics to verify accuracy, completeness, and consistency with project requirements and regulatory guidelines.
- Maintain organized, up-to-date documentation of all schematics, drawings, revisions, and related records throughout the project lifecycle.
- Continuously develop and refine technical skills, with a focus on AutoCAD Electrical, drafting best practices, and emerging standards in electrical design.
- Support the instrumentation and controls (I&C) team by producing lab equipment drawings and documentation needed for installation and testing activities.
- Assist with installation and testing of electrical and industrial automation equipment, including interpreting schematics and resolving design-related issues in the field.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to develop detailed technical specifications for power generation systems, medium and low voltage equipment, and associated controls.
- Troubleshoot electrical and electronic systems using tools such as oscilloscopes and other test equipment, and update drawings and documentation based on findings.
- Work with switchgear and substation-related designs as needed, particularly for systems involving 148 kV and 480 kV equipment.
- Travel to client sites, primarily within Texas, to support field verification, installation support, testing, and coordination of design-related activities.
Requirements
- 10+ years of drafting experience focused on electrical design or electrical schematics.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience using AutoCAD Electrical in a 2D environment.
- 3+ years of experience working with medium voltage, low voltage, power generation systems, and associated controls.
- 2+ years of experience with installation or troubleshooting of industrial automation equipment.
- Strong proficiency in electrical design and drafting, including the creation of clear, detailed schematics and documentation.
- Working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) and other relevant electrical codes and standards.
- Experience with power systems involving 148 kV and 480 kV equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical and electronic systems, including experience using oscilloscopes and related test equipment.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical and familiarity with CAD best practices for electrical design.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, project managers, and cross-functional technical teams.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate, organized design documentation.
Qualifications
- Experience with switchgear and substation design is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with SolidWorks for related design tasks is beneficial.
- Experience with power generation projects, including medium and low voltage systems and controls.
- Experience supporting instrumentation and controls (I&C) teams with lab equipment drawings and testing documentation.
- Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and resolve design and field issues efficiently.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 30% of the time to client sites, primarily within Texas.
- Comfort working on both office-based design tasks and field-based installation and testing support.
Schedule
This is a full-time, on-site role with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The position requires up to 30% travel to client sites, mostly within Texas. The office is expected to relocate to a city center location in 2027, and the role will continue to be based on-site Monday through Friday.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year. Individual compensation offered within this range will depend on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Candidates have the opportunity to earn a bonus based on performance metrics.
