About the role

Amazon Web Services is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join a global engineering team responsible for the design and continuous innovation of its rapidly expanding data center footprint. AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure customers have continual access to innovation. The team collaborates across AWS to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the best possible cost.

Responsibilities

  • Design resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution systems to achieve world-class uptime for customers.
  • Create data center electrical designs and collaborate with other disciplines to produce construction document sets.
  • Ensure designs meet or exceed quality requirements and fall within budgetary constraints.
  • Work with local agencies to ensure compliance with federal, state, municipal requirements, and building codes.
  • Review and approve equipment submittals; define project scope and provide technical support during construction.
  • Work with commissioning teams to test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
  • Manage concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions.
  • Travel to sites for reviews, collaborate with field engineers, and provide engineering evaluations, electrical systems audits, and startup support as needed.
  • Offer creative, out-of-the-box solutions to complex problems.

About the Team

AWS has a global presence, and this position is based in Virginia with required travel to Seattle (up to 20% of the time) and occasional international travel for collaboration and design support.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of industrial or commercial electrical engineering experience in mission-critical facilities, including data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities.
  • Preferred: Professional Engineer License.
  • Preferred: Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.
  • Preferred: Experience carrying design concepts from exploration through deployment or mass production.
  • Preferred: Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
  • Preferred: Experience in commissioning.
