Information TechnologyFull-time

Amazon Web Services is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join a global engineering team responsible for the design and continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data center footprint. AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring the cloud and ML/AI models run seamlessly. We support all AWS data centers and the critical equipment—servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling—that keep our customers connected to innovation.

You’ll collaborate with a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles to deliver the highest standards for safety, security, and cost efficiency. Our inclusive culture welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them from start to finish. As an engineer at Amazon, you’ll design resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution systems, justify technical decisions to senior management, and drive continuous advancements in our designs.

About the role

As an Electrical Engineer at Amazon, you’ll work on multi-million-dollar designs supporting a wide variety of businesses and customers. Creativity and ingenuity are encouraged to balance quality, speed, and cost. You’ll take designs from concept to permit and construction documents, define critical equipment specifications, and approve submittals. Your role will span the entire project lifecycle—from site selection and construction support to commissioning and turnover—serving as a subject-matter expert in electrical engineering.

Teamwork is essential, as you’ll collaborate with internal groups, utilities, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors. Based in Virginia, you’ll travel up to 20% of the time, primarily to Virginia-based data centers and Seattle for in-person collaboration. International support may require occasional global travel to work on design packages and teams, though familiarity with international electrical design requirements is helpful but not required.

  • Manage concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions.
  • Travel to sites for reviews, audits, and startup support, collaborating with field engineers.
  • Propose creative, out-of-the-box solutions to engineering challenges.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission-critical facilities, such as data centers, power generation, or oil and gas.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License.
