Electrical Design Engineer
About the role
The Electrical (ECAD) Engineering Technologist position is open for applications at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. ARL supports the Navy, DoD, and IC with innovative solutions to scientific, engineering, and technology challenges.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate electrical design support through collaboration with R&D Engineers and Engineering Support Specialists
- Create schematics, printed wiring boards, circuit card assemblies, bills of materials, and other documentation using ECAD software
- Archive and manage design documentation using ARL’s PLM software (Teamcenter)
- Manage work intake, estimation, and execution; report to senior management
- Participate and lead meetings and design reviews
- Maintain compliance training related to business systems, safety, and security
Requirements
- Past success with ECAD software and schematic development
- Experience leading or supervising teams
- Knowledge of printed wiring board construction and assembly
- Experience with project deliverables and team tracking
Preferred Skills
- Altium ECAD software proficiency
- Siemens Teamcenter PLM software expertise
- Microsoft Office Suite skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, Visio)
- Significant knowledge of electrical systems
- IPC CID or CID+ certification, or general knowledge of IPC standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 6+ years of relevant experience for Engineering Technologist, Electrical (ARL) - Senior Professional
- 3+ years of relevant experience for Engineering Technologist, Electrical (ARL) - Advanced Professional

Schedule
Full-time, 100% on-site location in State College, Pennsylvania. Hybrid work options may be available based on research requirements.
