Electrical Construction Assistant Project Manager NTS
About the role
The Assistant Project Manager is responsible for providing coordination support in various areas, working closely with construction project management and field staff.
Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of project documentation including submittals, RFIs, and project meeting minutes.
- Supervise and direct project activities as assigned by the Project Manager, including planning, coordinating, resolving issues, and ensuring adherence to company/project policies, procedures, and standards.
- Maintain change order, submittal, and document control logs within Viewpoint.
- Create Job Information Sheets and establish job files under the direction of the Project Manager or Project Engineer.
- Assume temporary total project supervision responsibilities in the absence of the Project Manager.
- Able to read and understand basic electrical drawings and specifications.
- Establish workflow breakdowns in conjunction with Field Supervisors and Project Managers.
- Absorb responsibility for ensuring project billings are accurate and submitted on time, monthly, and according to contract documents.
- Write and submit quality Request for Information (RFI).
- Aid in ensuring timely payment to subcontractors and vendors.
- Review and update construction schedules as requested by the Project Manager or Project Engineer.
- Work with Field Supervisors to set up project budgets in Viewpoint.
- Collaborate with the Payroll department to ensure accurate payroll information is submitted.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in electrical construction or a similar industry.
- Electrical license, preferred.
- Estimating and project management skills, preferred.
- Basic knowledge of electrical installations, codes, and construction methods.
- Familiarity with reading blueprints for structured cabling, building controls, fire alarm, security, and access control.
- Intermediate-level proficiency with computer skills - Excel, Word, and related PC skills.
- Driver’s license, clean driving record required.
- Strong math and organizational skills.
- Excellent people and communication skills.
- A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to multitask.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a relevant vocational training program or apprenticeship.
Skills
- Reading and understanding basic electrical drawings and specifications.
- Interacting effectively with subcontractors to obtain necessary documentation and manuals.
- Managing project documentation and maintaining compliance with company and project policies.
- Ensuring accurate project billing and timely submission of billings.
- Assisting in the creation and updating of construction schedules.
- Collaborating with the Payroll department to ensure accurate payroll information.
- Using Viewpoint software for project management and document control.
