Election Worker - IT Assistant - Office Specialist (Extra Help, Seasonal)
About the role
The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division is seeking full-time, seasonal IT Assistant – Office Specialists to assist in the upcoming November 3, 2026 Statewide General Election. This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in the election process.
Responsibilities
- Assist with office tech support
- Perform basic PC/printer/monitor troubleshooting
- Schedule site visits at fifty (50) Vote Center sites with County network engineers
- Bring networking hardware to site
- Test facility network connectivity at site
- Record data into excel spreadsheets from tests conducted by the network engineers
- Assist with Vote Center tech support
- Functionally test equipment used at Vote Centers (iPads, wireless printers, WIFI printers, etc.)
- Visit Vote Centers and report connection issues
Qualifications
- Previous experience providing basic PC/tech troubleshooting support
- Technical Skills: Knowledge and use of iPads and iPhones, Basic understanding of Wi-Fi networking, Basic understanding of hardware setup, Basic understanding of software installation, Ability to troubleshoot issues with system configurations
- Work Skills: Well-organized/detail-oriented, Ability to explain issues clearly and follow instructions to meet deadlines, Excellent communication skills (written/verbal), Customer service
Pay
The starting hourly wage for this position is $31.61. Overtime is required.
Schedule
This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Extra-help hours are dependent on the business needs of the department and work hours may vary from week to week. Extra-help employees shall not exceed 1,040 hours of work per fiscal year. Some extra-help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra-help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment.
