EHS Emergency Response Coordinator

EHS Coordinator (Site Safety Emergency Response)

TerraPower is seeking a safety professional to provide the following services:

• Development of location specific Incident Command structures
• Support as a SME the development of on-site Incident Commanders (IC) using standard Incident Command System (ICS) protocols until emergency services arrive.
• Develop and implement an in-house program mirroring applicable components CERT Leadership
• Build, train, and deploy an internal Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) for disaster medical ops and light rescue.
• Evacuation Planning
• Design, map, and execute building evacuation routes and shelter-in-place procedures for diverse emergency needs.
• Disaster Readiness
• Update master emergency action plans annually for specific events like earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, fire, shelter in place, etc.
• Regulatory Compliance
• Maintain full site alignment with OSHA 1910.38 (Emergency Action Plans) and local fire codes.
• Emergency Planning
• Create crisis plans and drills.
• Development of onsite ERT, leadership and employee training to support emergency scenarios.
• Ensure site specific EHS programs, policies, and procedures aligned with company goals and objectives.
• Serve as a contact for implementing EHS programs in the region's facilities or sites.
• Regulatory Compliance
• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations (e.g., NRC, OSHA, EPA, NFPA, etc.).
• Conduct inspections and audits to assess compliance with regulations and company policies.
• Serve as liaison with regulatory agencies and external audits.
• Risk Assessment and Incident Prevention
• Ensure risks, unsafe practices and implement controls to mitigate those risks are identified and implemented.
• Review workplace risk/exposure assessments.
• Lead incident investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Training and Education
• Ensure EHS training programs for employees at all levels have been adopted.
• Ensure employees and managers are trained and knowledgeable of their EHS responsibilities.
• Performance Tracking and Improvement
• Track and analyze EHS performance metrics.
• Develop and implement annual improvement plans based on performance data.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety performance.
• Leadership and Support
• Provide EHS leadership and guidance to site employees and management.
• Support and mentor field service employees and local leadership teams.
• Collaborate with various teams (e.g., operations, training, etc.) to drive program success.
• Hazard Identification and Evaluation
• Identifying and analyzing potential workplace hazards such as chemical, physical, ergonomic, and biological exposures, and conducting worksite analyses to pinpoint problem areas.
• Exposure Assessment
• Making measurements of the level of worker exposure to identified hazards through environmental monitoring.
• Hazard Control and Mitigation
• Developing and recommending controls to minimize hazards, including engineering controls (e.g., ventilation systems, isolating the hazard), work practice changes, administrative controls (e.g., scheduling changes), and recommending personal protective equipment (PPE).

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 5-7 years coordinating emergency preparedness, disaster logistics, or industrial safety operations.
• ICS Training: Verified completion of FEMA courses IS-100, IS-200, and IS-700 (National Incident Management System).
• Certifications: Certified CERT Trainer, OSHA 30-Hour, and advanced First Aid/CPR/AED Wilderness or First Responder credentials.
• Critical Skills: Expertise in hazard vulnerability assessments, radio communication protocols, and high-stress command execution.
• Education: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related scientific or engineering discipline.
• Proven leadership or management experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Technical expertise in specific areas such as electrical safety or hazardous materials may also be necessary depending on the industry.
• Strong communication skills are desired.
• The service provider will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect, and a desire to foster teamwork.
