About the Role

The EHS Assistant performs thorough 10-step cleaning and servicing of assigned hospital areas using pre-approved products, tools, and procedures. Tasks are completed in patient rooms, care areas, departments, offices, ancillary spaces (nursing stations, utility rooms, kitchens), and public areas (waiting rooms, lobbies, restrooms, elevators, corridors). The role emphasizes efficiency, cheerfulness, and respect for patients, visitors, and staff, with a focus on patient and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the 10-step cleaning process in all assigned areas after training.
  • Complete tasks efficiently and consistently, adhering to assigned Duty Lists.
  • Provide related services such as bed moves, cleaning IV poles/pumps, portable potties, and stocking supplies.
  • Respond rapidly to emergencies, special needs, stat discharge cleanings, and spills.
  • Maintain excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact supportively with employees, patients, families, and visitors.
  • Read, write, and communicate in English.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • One to two years’ experience in housekeeping or service work, preferably in a healthcare facility.

Physical Demands

  • Medium-Heavy Work: Lift up to 75 pounds infrequently and/or carry up to 35 pounds while walking.
  • Push or pull up to 115 pounds infrequently or greater than 115 pounds occasionally (no more than once per hour).
  • Ergonomic risks include repetition, forceful exertion, awkward postures (reaching, twisting, bending, kneeling, squatting, overhead work), and contact stress.
  • Tasks are physical; must stand for a full 8-hour shift and work with chemicals using proper PPE.
  • Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Risk: Category A – will have exposure to blood or body fluids.

Reporting Relationship

Reports directly to an EHS Shift Supervisor or EHS Lead Assistant in their absence. Receives oversight, training, and direction from EHS Lead Assistant, EHS Shift Supervisor, EHS Operations Manager, and/or EHS Director.

Pay

Hourly range: $17.51 - $19.54, based on experience, skills, and education. Part-time salaries are pro-rated. Shift differential and overtime pay may apply for non-exempt positions.

Schedule

Days with every other weekend and rotating holidays.
