About the Role

The EHS Assistant performs thorough 10-step cleaning and servicing of assigned areas within the hospital using pre-approved products, tools, and procedures. The role requires efficiency, cheerfulness, and respect for patients, visitors, and staff, with a strong focus on patient and customer satisfaction. Tasks include cleaning patient rooms, care areas, departments, offices, ancillary spaces (e.g., nursing stations, utility rooms, kitchens), and public areas (e.g., waiting rooms, lobbies, restrooms, elevators, corridors).

Responsibilities

  • Perform the 10-step cleaning process thoroughly and consistently in all assigned areas.
  • Complete tasks efficiently and maintain attention to detail to fulfill assigned duty lists.
  • Provide related services such as bed moves, cleaning IV poles and pumps, cleaning portable potties, and stocking supplies.
  • Respond rapidly to emergencies, special needs, stat discharge cleanings, and spills.
  • Maintain excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact supportively with employees, patients, families, and visitors.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling chemicals or bloodborne pathogens.

Requirements

  • Ability to report for assigned shifts on time and complete full shifts as scheduled.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the 10-step cleaning process after training.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures consistently.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • One to two years of experience in housekeeping or service work, preferably in a healthcare facility (high school diploma or equivalent preferred).

Physical Demands

  • Medium-heavy work: Lifting up to 75 pounds infrequently and/or carrying up to 35 pounds while walking.
  • Pushing or pulling up to 115 pounds infrequently or greater than 115 pounds occasionally (no more than once per hour).
  • Ergonomic risks include repetition, forceful exertion, awkward postures (e.g., reaching, twisting, bending, kneeling, squatting), and contact stress.
  • Ability to stand for a full 8-hour shift and complete physically demanding tasks.
  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens (Category A – will have exposure to blood or body fluids).

Working Conditions

  • Physical work environment requiring consistent standing and movement.
  • Use of acidic, alkaline, and solvent chemicals with proper PPE.

Reporting Relationship

Reports directly to an EHS Shift Supervisor or EHS Lead Assistant in their absence. Receives oversight, training, and direction from EHS leadership, including the EHS Operations Manager and EHS Director.

Pay

Hourly pay range: $17.51 - $19.54, based on experience, skills, and education. Part-time positions are pro-rated based on scheduled hours. Non-exempt positions may include shift differential and overtime pay, if applicable.

Schedule

PRN (as needed) basis, including nights, every other weekend, and rotating holidays.
