About the Role

As an EHS Assistant, you will perform thorough 10-step cleaning and servicing of assigned areas within the hospital using pre-approved products, tools, and procedures. Your work will focus on maintaining cleanliness and order in patient rooms, care areas, departments, offices, ancillary spaces (e.g., nursing stations, utility rooms, kitchens), and public areas (e.g., waiting rooms, lobbies, restrooms, elevators, corridors). You will support Frederick Health’s mission, vision, and customer service philosophy while adhering to compliance and behavioral standards.

Responsibilities

  • Complete assigned tasks efficiently and systematically, ensuring full adherence to the 10-step cleaning process in all areas of assignment.
  • Perform related services such as bed moves, cleaning IV poles and pumps, portable potties, and stocking supplies.
  • Respond rapidly to emergencies, special needs, stat discharge cleanings, and spills with urgency.
  • Maintain excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact cheerfully and supportively with employees, patients, families, visitors, and customers.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail in completing assigned duties and processes consistently.

Requirements

  • Ability to report for assigned shifts on time and complete full shifts as scheduled.
  • Proficiency in performing the 10-step cleaning process after training.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • One to two years of experience in housekeeping or service work, preferably in a healthcare facility (high school diploma or equivalent preferred).

Physical Demands

  • Medium-heavy work: Lifting up to 75 pounds infrequently and/or carrying up to 35 pounds while walking.
  • Pushing or pulling up to 115 pounds infrequently or greater than 115 pounds occasionally (no more than once per hour).
  • Ergonomic risks include repetition, forceful exertion, awkward postures (e.g., prolonged reaching, twisting, bending, kneeling), and contact stress.
  • Ability to stand for a full 8-hour shift and complete physically demanding tasks.
  • Must work with acidic, alkaline, and solvent chemicals using proper procedures and specified personal protective equipment (PPE).

Exposure Risk: Category A – Will have exposure to blood or body fluids.

Pay

Hourly range: $17.51 - $19.54, based on experience, skills, and education. Part-time positions are pro-rated based on scheduled hours. Non-exempt positions may include shift differential and/or overtime pay.

Schedule

Environmental Health Services Nights, with every other weekend and rotating holidays.
