University of Wisconsin-Madison's Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP) administers extramural research grants and contracts, managing an open portfolio of over $4 billion with annual awards exceeding $1 billion.

About the Role

The Effort Compliance Manager will oversee the payroll compensation compliance reporting process to ensure the university meets all reporting requirements. This includes verifying sponsor commitments, preventing overcharging, and ensuring compliance with certification and training provisions. The role involves collaboration with campus constituents (faculty, PIs, dean's offices, department administrators, and university leadership) as well as external partners (vendors and sponsors).

Responsibilities

  • Ensures institutional compliance related to audit coordination, conflict of interest, intellectual property, institutional review boards, export controls, effort, and other policies (10%)
  • Serves as a key resource to campus regarding research administration compliance and may supervise staff (35%)
  • Supports UW-Madison’s technical system needs for effort management, including system operations, project management, and upgrades (10%)
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures for compliance with federal, state, local, and university regulations (10%)
  • Assists principal investigators, researchers, administrative staff, leadership, and others to ensure institutional compliance with applicable regulations (35%)

Requirements

Five years of experience in Research Administration.

  • Associate’s degree (required); Bachelor’s degree (strongly preferred)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and implement Federal, State, and University policies and procedures
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting University accounting systems operations and data
  • Excellent communication, planning, problem-solving, project management, and customer service skills
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships across the organization
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for complex situations and ideas
  • Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and implement effective business solutions

Pay

Starting salary is $80,000, negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
