AIS, a premier government contractor, is seeking highly motivated and well-qualified personnel to support the Department of Energy at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas. Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, taking day-to-day direction from Y-12 staff while advancing the core mission of ensuring a safe, secure, and reliable U.S. nuclear deterrent.

Responsibilities

  • Develop high-quality, detailed design packages and provide engineering procurement and field technical support for implementation.
  • Prepare conceptual engineering deliverables, including cost-estimating bills of material, labor-hour estimates, statements of work, design criteria, and title II design engineering deliverables (calculations, analyses, construction specifications, drawings, and equipment specifications).
  • Collaborate as a team member within an integrated project team.
  • Perform walkdowns in existing plant facilities to generate design documents and provide field support to craft personnel.
  • Apply technical expertise in electrical engineering with a focus on instrumentation and controls for equipment process control and monitoring.
  • Provide self-performed technical solutions to complex problems using established engineering practices, codes, and standards.
  • Offer field troubleshooting support for existing systems to inform design corrections.
  • Prepare conduit/cable schedules, conduit/equipment plans, one-line diagrams, wiring/connection/schematic diagrams, instrument loop diagrams, sections/elevations/details, calculations, datasheets, and construction specifications.
  • Develop control cabinet assembly drawings, system diagrams, and control logic for batch and continuous processes using analog instrumentation, distributed digital control systems, and PLCs/HMIs.
  • Create process control system narratives, assist in developing process software requirements, and provide input to Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Apply knowledge of the National Electrical Code, UL508A, and relevant ISA standards to design instrumentation and controls systems.
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation industrial automation software (e.g., RSLogix, FactoryTalk View) is preferred but not required.

Requirements

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with 20+ years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 19+ years of experience, including at least 5 years in instrumentation and controls design.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance (highly desired but not required to start). Uncleared candidates will be expected to apply for clearance after starting work.
  • U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age, and ability to meet pre-employment requirements, including physicals, drug screening, and background investigation.
  • Position is designated as a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing role, requiring participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in addition to the pre-employment drug screen.
  • Job-related pre-placement medical examinations may be required.

Schedule

Full-time, 4/10 schedule (Monday–Thursday).
