EE/Instrumentation and Control Engineer, Level IV

AIS, a premier government contractor, is seeking highly motivated and well-qualified personnel to support the Department of Energy at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas. Successful candidates will be employees of AIS but will take day-to-day direction from Y-12 staff. Pay, benefits, and employment functions are provided by AIS.

About the role

This full-time position involves developing high-quality detailed design packages, providing engineering procurement and field technical support, and offering expertise for troubleshooting and technical assessments of plant systems. The role requires close collaboration with an integrated project team and routine walkdowns in existing plant facilities to generate design documents and provide field support.

Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual engineering deliverables such as cost-estimating bills of material, labor-hour estimates, statements of work, design criteria, and title II design engineering deliverables (calculations, analyses, construction specifications, drawings, and equipment specifications).
• Apply technical expertise in electrical engineering with a focus on instrumentation and controls for equipment process control and monitoring.
• Provide self-performed technical solutions to complex problems using established engineering practices, codes, and standards.
• Prepare conduit/cable schedules, conduit/equipment plans, one-line diagrams, wiring/connection/schematic diagrams, instrument loop diagrams, sections/elevations/details, calculations, datasheets, and construction specifications.
• Develop control cabinet assembly drawings, system diagrams, and control logic for batch and continuous processes using analog instrumentation, distributed digital control systems, and PLCs/HMIs.
• Create process control system narratives, assist in developing process software requirements, and provide input to Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
• Field troubleshooting support of existing systems to inform design for corrective actions.
• Utilize the National Electrical Code, UL508A, and relevant ISA standards for instrumentation and controls systems design.
• Experience with Rockwell Automation industrial automation software (RSLogix, FactoryTalk View, etc.) is preferred but not required.

Requirements

• ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with 15-20 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 14-18 years of experience, including over 5 years in instrumentation and controls design.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance (highly desired but not required to start). Uncleared candidates will apply for clearance after starting.
• U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age, and ability to meet pre-employment requirements including physicals, drug screen, and background investigation.
• Participation in an ongoing random drug testing program (Workplace Substance Abuse Program).
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test and job-related medical examinations.

Schedule

Full-time, 4/10 schedule (Monday–Thursday).
