AIS, a premier government contractor, is seeking highly motivated and well-qualified personnel to support the Department of Energy at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas. Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, taking day-to-day direction from Y-12 staff while advancing the mission to ensure a safe, secure, and reliable U.S. nuclear deterrent.
Responsibilities
- Develop high-quality, detailed design packages and provide engineering procurement and field technical support to implement those designs.
- Provide expertise for troubleshooting and technical assessments of plant systems.
- Prepare conceptual engineering deliverables, including cost-estimating bills of material, labor-hour estimates, statements of work, design criteria, and title II design engineering deliverables (calculations, analyses, construction specifications, drawings, and equipment specifications).
- Work cooperatively as part of an integrated project team.
- Perform walkdowns in existing plant facilities to generate design documents and provide field support to craft personnel.
- Apply technical expertise in electrical engineering with a focus on instrumentation and controls for equipment process control and monitoring.
- Provide self-performed technical solutions to complex problems using established engineering practices, codes, and standards.
- Prepare conduit/cable schedules, conduit/equipment plans, one-line diagrams, wiring/connection/schematic diagrams, instrument loop diagrams, sections/elevations/details, calculations, datasheets, and construction specifications.
- Develop control cabinet assembly drawings, system diagrams, and control logic for batch and continuous processes using analog instrumentation, distributed digital control systems, and PLCs/HMIs.
- Develop process control system narratives, aid in process software requirements, and provide input to Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Apply the National Electrical Code, UL508A, and relevant ISA standards to design instrumentation and controls systems.
- Field troubleshooting support of existing systems to inform design for corrective actions.
Experience with Rockwell Automation industrial automation software (RSLogix, FactoryTalk View, etc.) is preferred but not required. A Professional Engineering License (PE) is preferred but not required.
Requirements
- ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with 10-14 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 10-13 years of experience, including at least 5 years of instrumentation and controls design experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance (highly desired but not required to start). Uncleared candidates will be expected to apply for clearance after starting work.
- U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age, and ability to meet pre-employment requirements, including physicals, drug screen, and background investigation.
- This position is identified as a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position, requiring participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in addition to the pre-employment drug screen.
- Job-related pre-placement medical examinations may be required.
Schedule
Full-time, 4/10 schedule (Monday–Thursday).
