About the role
The Educational Facilitator oversees students requiring an alternative to traditional education programs in a residential facility. The role involves managing behavior, assisting students in making appropriate choices, and helping them meet their educational goals.
Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains a positive learning environment
- Helps students understand academic and behavioral objectives
- Under the direction of a lead teacher, implements effective pupil management procedures and upholds the student conduct code
- Provides guidance, communicates high expectations, and shows an active interest in student progress
- Facilitates critical-thinking, problem-solving, and creativity skills
- Incorporates effective use of technology in program activities and upholds acceptable use policies
- Proctors standardized and alternative tests as directed; follows test security procedures
- Collaborates with staff to implement behavior improvement plans
- Takes precautions to ensure safety of all students and watches for problem situations
- Maintains accurate records and submits required reports in a timely manner
- Works with administration and/or support staff to address student concerns including excessive absence, risk behavior, physical/mental health, etc.
- Participates in conferences, staff meetings, and professional growth opportunities as directed
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required
- Valid Ohio license appropriate for the assignment
- Record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment
- Previous teaching or tutoring experience preferred
Qualifications
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of special education principles and practices
- Experience with data management and reporting
