Educational Facilitator

Language Requirement: Fluency in English and Spanish is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (required)
• Certification by the relevant governing authority, Teaching English as a Second Language/Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages certification or other appropriate accrediting body, plus additional training to meet the special needs of unaccompanied children
• First aid, CPR, and Emergency behavior intervention certifications
• At least three (3) years of teaching and supervising, including a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience

Responsibilities

• Meet all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards applicable to the position
• Hire, train, supervise, and provide performance feedback for program personnel in accordance with agency policies and federal/state standards
• Select, acquire, store, issue, and inventory classroom equipment, materials, and supplies for the educational program
• Complete all notification and reporting requirements in accordance with state and federal contract and regulatory standards
• Collaborate with other teachers and administrators to evaluate the effectiveness of the educational program and make recommendations for improvement
• Communicate and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students
• Effectively communicate with facility staff, children, federal staff, legal representatives, and community resources
• Monitor program data and report to Compass Connections administration, management, and the Office of Refugee Resettlement regarding activities and recommendations
• Participate in service expansion planning, budget preparations, and long- and short-term planning for the program
• Maintain confidentiality in all areas of child and program operations
• Adhere to Compass Connections professional and ethical standards of conduct, including respect for staff, clients, and community members, and comply with required dress code
• Participate in the assessment, identification, and documentation of the educational needs of all children in care
• Collaborate with educational services facilitators to identify student instructional needs and develop instructional programs
• Implement a culturally competent educational curriculum that develops skills in compulsory domains and reflects current educational best practices
• Teach one or more subject areas at the assigned level
• Support, encourage, and recruit foster parents
• Travel from one location to another daily
• Meet predetermined deadlines and reporting requirements
• Know, support, and abide by the Compass Connections educational philosophy and culture

Requirements

• Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens throughout employment
• Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request
• Pass pre-employment and biennial criminal background checks
• Demonstrate knowledge of current educational best practices for the service population
• Ability to:
  • Respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socio-economic characteristics
  • Work collaboratively with staff, service providers, and professionals
  • Provide crisis intervention to maintain a safe environment
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and maintain emotional control and professional composure
  • Maintain computer literacy required for the position
  • Work effectively and without intensive supervision, both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of all Compass Connections policies and procedures
