About the role
The Educational Aide position will provide behavioral and academic support to students in a private day school setting. We are seeking motivated individuals who wish to positively impact the lives of young people through daily classroom and community-based instruction.
Responsibilities
- Assists teachers and other support staff in all educational settings.
- Implement behavior strategies as described and collect behavior data as requested.
- Provides academic assistance to students as directed by teacher.
- Works with teachers, other support staff, and administration to maintain a safe and supportive school environment.
- Maintains a positive classroom environment by monitoring student behavior and initiating positive reinforcement of desired behaviors.
- Communicates with teacher, other support staff, and administrators to coordinate activities, exchange information, and resolve challenges.
- Attends staff meetings, parent meetings, IEP meetings as requested.
- Obtains Safety Care certification and implements Safety Care strategies to respond to and de-escalate negative behaviors.
- Attends work regularly and arrives in a timely manner.
- Communicates professionally and conveys dignity and respect to students, parents, co-workers, and other professionals.
Requirements
- High School diploma/GED required.
- One year working with children in child-care settings and/or academic or residential environments preferred.
- Basic computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office.
- Valid Virginia Drivers’ License and proof of insurance if assigned driver.
- Satisfactory Driving Record.
- Ability to understand and build rapport with students with special needs.
Qualifications
- Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years:
- Reckless driving, including speeding 20mph or more over the posted speed limit.
- Driving under the influence/impaired/intoxicated or refusing a blood/breath test.
- Manslaughter or negligent homicide.
- Driving after being declared a habitual offender.
- Driving on a suspended or revoked license.
- Driving a commercial motor vehicle while disqualified, under the influence, with a blood alcohol level of .04 or higher, refusing a blood/breath test, or violating an out-of-service order.
- Injuring a person while racing - felony.
- Failure to stop at the scene of a crash where there is injury, death, or property damage of $1000 or more.
- Emergency vehicle violation - death.
- Vehicular assault or willful stopping, impeding, or damaging a vehicle.
- Blocking access to the service facility.
- Attempting to elude police.
- Operating an unsafe vehicle.
- Vulnerable Road User – Death.
- Must not have any of the following violations within the last 3 years:
- Passing a stopped school bus.
- Careless driving.
- Three or more minor moving violations within the last three years.
Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques.
- Basic understanding of special education principles and practices.

$15.00 per hour
Schedule
Monday-Friday, 8:00AM - 4:00PM
Driving Specific
