Educational Aide

About the role

The Educational Aide position will provide behavioral and academic support to students in a private day school setting. We seek motivated individuals who wish to positively impact the lives of young people through daily classroom and community-based instruction.

Responsibilities

• Assists teachers and other support staff in all educational settings.
• Implements behavior strategies as described and collects behavior data as requested.
• Provides academic assistance to students as directed by teacher.
• Works with teachers, other support staff, and administration to maintain a safe and supportive school environment.
• Maintains a positive rapport with students with special needs.
• Monitors student behavior and initiates positive reinforcement of desired behaviors.
• Communicates with teacher, other support staff, and administrators to coordinate activities, exchange information, and resolve challenges.
• Attends staff meetings, parent meetings, IEP meetings as requested.
• Obtains Safety Care certification and implements Safety Care strategies to respond to and de-escalate negative behaviors.
• Attends work regularly and arrives in a timely manner.
• Communicates professionally and conveys dignity and respect to students, parents, co-workers, and other professionals.

Requirements

• High School diploma/GED required.
• One year working with children in child-care settings and/or academic or residential environments preferred.
• Basic computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office.
• Valid Virginia Drivers’ License and proof of insurance if assigned driver.
• Satisfactory Driving Record.
• Ability to understand and build rapport with students with special needs.

Qualifications

• Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years:
• Reckless driving, including speeding 20mph or more over the posted speed limit.
• Driving under the influence/impaired/intoxicated or refusing a blood/breath test.
• Manslaughter or negligent homicide.
• Driving after being declared a habitual offender.
• Driving on a suspended or revoked license.
• Driving a commercial motor vehicle while disqualified, under the influence, with a blood alcohol level of .04 or higher, refusing a blood/breath test, or violating an out-of-service order.
• Injuring a person while racing - felony.
• Failure to stop at the scene of a crash where there is injury, death, or property damage of $1000 or more.
• Emergency vehicle violation - death.
• Vehicular assault or willful stopping, impeding, or damaging a vehicle.
• Blocking access to the service facility.
• Attempting to elude police.
• Operating an unsafe vehicle.
• Vulnerable Road User – Death.
• Must not have any of the following violations within the last 3 years:
• Passing a stopped school bus.
• Careless driving.
• Three or more minor moving violations within the last three years.

Skills

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of behavior management techniques.
• Basic understanding of special education principles and practices.

Pay

$15.00 per hour

Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8:00AM - 4:00PM
