About the Role
This position supports classroom and educational services, including assisting teachers, maintaining order, and contributing to student development in a foster care program setting. Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
Responsibilities
- Arrive on time and be inside the classroom no later than 15 minutes before students arrive.
- Assist the teacher in maintaining order and discipline in the classroom.
- Communicate all relevant concerns about students to the teacher and direct care staff.
- Interact with children in ways appropriate to child growth and development.
- Help assess and evaluate each student’s progress daily, weekly, quarterly, and monthly.
- Assist the teacher with preparation, instruction, and clean-up of materials and activities daily.
- Serve as a substitute teacher as needed.
- Perform extensive data entry of student information, including assessment results and grades.
- Prepare and execute effective lesson plans.
- Administer a variety of assessments to assist in identifying student progress.
- Document and record scores and other relevant data.
- Maintain classroom presentation to promote an aesthetically pleasing and safe environment.
- Assist ESL Facilitators in the instruction of basic subjects and maintaining order in the classroom.
- Communicate all relevant concerns about students to the Lead ESL Facilitator.
- Ensure accuracy in record keeping and data entry.
- Support, encourage, and recruit foster parents as part of Foster Care Programs.
- Attend all planned Educational Services functions, such as open houses, in-services, and teacher workdays.
- Perform clerical duties, including answering phones, filing, sending faxes, and making copies.
- Serve as a tutor to students aged 5 to 17, working on a broad array of tasks at various grade levels.
- Answer questions about classroom assignments and provide individual instruction and guidance.
- Carry out supervisory teacher duties promptly and reasonably when necessary.
- Handle all student information with utmost confidentiality.
- Other job duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens throughout employment.
- Must be at least 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.
- Working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
- Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.
- Pass pre-employment and biennial criminal background checks.
Qualifications
- Required: GED or high school diploma as required by state regulations.
- Preferred: Some college coursework in teaching Science, Social Studies, Math, Reading, Writing, English as a Second Language, or social work.
- Certifications: First aid, CPR, and Emergency Behavior Intervention.
- Three (3) years of experience in a classroom, community service, and/or an education setting.
