Education Specialist - Ambulance Services
About the role
The Education Specialist (ES) works collaboratively to assess, plan, implement and evaluate educational activities for Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service staff including orientation, continuing education, and competency programs. Roles of the ES include learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, and champion for Ambulance Service personnel including, Emergency Medical Dispatchers (EMD), Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT). Paramedics, Critical Care Paramedics and Critical Care Nurses. Serves as a classroom instructor on an as needed basis. Develops and maintains a positive working relationship with clients and strives to problem solve issues or concerns that may arrive. Recognizes opportunities to improve services, processes, efficiencies, and is catalyst for leading and implementing change and promoting teamwork.

- Serves as a classroom instructor on an as needed basis.

- Supports and aligns efforts with strategic and operational plans.
Qualifications
- Five or more years' experience as a Paramedic, Registered Nurse, or EMD.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with course work in business, management, emergency services, health administration or related field.
- Master’s degree preferred. Two or more years of management/supervisory experience is preferred but not required.
- Previous EMS education, Emergency Department, Dispatching, or Intensive Care Unit experience is highly desired.
- Ability to present ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Strong inter-personal communication skills and must have demonstrated their administrative skills and their use of a variety of office machines and equipment.
- Ability to solve problems, make decisions, and resolve conflicts in a timely and effective manner.
- Ability to utilize computers and other forms of information systems.
- Knowledge or experience with learning and development systems and technologies including blended/action/experiential learning, coaching, managing budgets and vendor relationships.
- Proven track record and success in working effectively with various healthcare staff, in meeting clients/customer needs, and implementing high quality educational curriculum and leadership development strategies.
- Ability to be flexible, to think strategically and creatively to problem-solve.
- Strong team, facilitation, interpersonal effectiveness, communication, and organizational skills required.
Additional Qualifications
- Current certification/licensure as a Registered Nurse, Nationally Registered Paramedic, or Emergency Medical Dispatcher.
- Current Minnesota and Wisconsin Licensure/Certification for Nurse or Paramedic role.
- Critical care paramedic certification required for paramedic candidates, CCRN, CFRN preferred for nurse candidate.
- PALS, ACLS, BCLS instructor certifications are required or willingness to obtain within 30 days of accepting the position.
- Willingness to obtain US Department of Transportation Instructor certification within six months of hire.
- Willingness to obtain additional instructor certificates as needed.
- Current and valid driver's license in Minnesota or Wisconsin.
- Nurse or Paramedic candidates will be required to complete Critical Care team orientation and successfully pass the Flight Paramedic certification (FP-C) or Certified Flight RN (CFRN) certification within one year of hire.
- Emergency Medical Dispatcher candidates required to complete EMD-Q certification within one year of hire.
