About the role
Community Impact's internship program offers an innovative experience for individuals interested in launching their community journalism careers. Participants work with industry veterans and learn from experienced editors, contributing directly to the organization's work.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of stories for the print product and online platforms.
- Write web stories and contribute to the Impacts and To-do List sections of the paper.
- Shadow reporters at local government meetings and other relevant events.
- Work outside of regular office hours to attend community meetings and take photos.
Requirements
- Ability to work outside of regular office hours to attend community meetings.
- Ability to be out in the communities we serve, taking photos and connecting with sources.
Qualifications
- Currently studying for a degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
- Experience writing in AP Style, preferably for a student publication or media company.
Skills
- Strong writing and storytelling skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Knowledge of AP Style and journalistic ethics.

Pay
Summer interns are full-time for 10-12 weeks and will be paid an hourly rate of $15.
Schedule
The standard work week is Monday through Friday, with some evening shifts required to cover council meetings.
