About the role
We are seeking an editor for the news desk who can design pages, edit copy, write headlines, and craft display copy for daily news across all formats: print, narrative stories, video, alternative storytelling, social media, and voice.
Responsibilities
- Spot big-picture questions in copy while ensuring attention to small details.
- Review stories digitally and in print.
- Assess reader and subscriber trends to serve loyal audiences and help build new, diverse subscribers.
- Communicate and coordinate with news desk members on stories and packages.
- Edit and move copy quickly with a focus on accuracy, fairness, and detail.
Requirements
- Must know AP and Newsday style.
- Prior newsroom experience required.
- Strong news judgment and editing skills, with a deep understanding of our products and the role of metrics.
- Collaborative and communicative with colleagues across all platforms.
- Attention to detail, grammatical accuracy, and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously while meeting aggressive deadlines.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to work a flexible and varied schedule, including weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed.
Pay
Hourly base rate range: $37.00 - $55.66, commensurate with experience.
Schedule
Employees are generally required to work in the office and/or in the field a minimum of three (3) days per week. Flexible and varied schedule, including weekends, holidays, and extended hours as needed.
