About the role

The Non-Licensed Emergency Department Technician provides direct patient care that encompasses the nursing assistant role, phlebotomy, and 12-lead ECG tracings. Under the direct supervision of the RN, they participate in cost containment, development/maintenance of a positive work environment, minimizing overtime, attending required classes and meetings, participating in unit committees, adhering to all policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes patient safety by applying protective devices correctly, anticipating patient requests, making rounds every hour as a minimum, assisting RN in planning patient care, maintaining a safe unit environment, promoting infection control by washing hands before and after patient contact, handling soiled linen, equipment and instruments per protocol, maintaining sterile asepsis, changing and securing dressings, maintaining isolation technique, promoting personal safety by utilizing PPE appropriately, keeping hallways clear of furniture/equipment, everything on one side.
  • Provides daily inventory maintenance by maintaining support areas (kitchen, nurses’ station, utility rooms) clean/stocked, restocking equipment in patient rooms, accountable for wheelchairs, thermometers and other pertinent equipment, completing appropriate work forms for maintenance and clinical engineering service, equipment work orders, including removing from service.
  • Provides direct patient care that significantly impacts patient satisfaction by promoting patient wellness, maintaining a pleasant environment for patients by keeping rooms visually clean and uncluttered, ready to monitor patient post-procedure, participating in admission, transport and discharge of patients, assisting patients with in-bed mobility; transfers to/from bed, WC, stretcher, or chair; positioning for alignment and comfort, assisting patients with nutrition management by preparing patients for meals by offering washing of hands, mouth care and positioning in chair or bed before meal tray arrives, delivering trays, documenting intake per policy, feeding dependent patients as needed, providing fresh water, ice and snacks, providing assistance with elimination procedures by offering/removing bedpans and urinals, providing catheter care per policy, emptying urinary drainage bags using goggles and gloves, collecting specimens for ordered tests, catheterizing female and male patients, communicating any intake and output.

Qualifications

  • Certifications: Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Training within 3 months - Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI); Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Education: H.S. Diploma/GED

Skills

  • Knowledge and skills necessary to obtain adequate lab specimens for testing.
  • Practical problem-solving approach to patient moving and handling issues.
  • Appropriate use of lift equipment.

Pay

The compensation range for this position is $17.89 per hour - $28.98 per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
